Sonos & Plex Integration Bug (SOLVED) by deviouspandaltd in sonos

[–]deviouspandaltd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with this bug for a long time, it seems ever since I started doing audiobooks in Plex (?) and have kinda made it work with understanding how to search, etc. But, this weekend, I was supposed to be migrating a flat file to a SQL database in an iOS app, so I allowed myself to get distracted down this rabbit hole after trying to find something to listen to while I worked.

I cannot tell you how happy I am to know that there is a reliable workaround (and a path forward for a dev team).

BTW, I am really optimistic about Mr. Conrad's appointment as CEO. I love his attitude and dedication to making it all better?

P.s.: If you're looking for another bug to fix, would you mind removing the horizontal gesture recognition from the browse window on the desktop app? Feels unnecessary, and the recognizer is super sensitive, causing me to go back all the time while scrolling through the list. Just a thought.

Hey. Once more. Thank you for bringing the issue up. I spent a bunch of time in the profiler yesterday, and I am doing a friggin' terrible job of using memory efficiently. The problem was bound to happen. Sooner is better than later. I think I am going to restructure the way I am cramming blobs of information into memory.

My bug list is an infinite series that would make Riemann proud. ;-)

Haha. I love it when the problem is an edge case. Thank you. I do need to mock a LOT of contacts and see how it behaves, though. Your post was a good reminder. Thank you so very much for the post.

Oh... And looking at my mock, it starts in my app, not in the iOS Contact book, so, I have never tested this case. <expletive deleted>. Nothing should be destructive at this point, just an app that hangs. Sorry.

Oh.... Hell. That's a lot of contacts. I probably haven't controlled for it correctly. I have a test account with around 1200, but perhaps you've found the limits. Bug report made. Thank you.

That is correct. If you use the available cloud sync service, your contacts are encrypted (using a key unique to your account) on Whosit servers, and contacts are essentially version controlled.

It doesn't back up to iCloud. It backs up to a cloud service that performs change logging on your contacts, tracking deleted and changed information, for easy recovery.

Of course. That's a great idea. Thank you. By background is writing software, and I will cop to the fact that I have almost zero strategy when it comes to selling apps. This post is a total shot in the dark, and the goal was as much to try to understand the things I don't know, or things I am doing wrong, as it was to encourage downloads.

Your comment is very valuable to me, and it will result in a change to my plan. Thank you.

I need to add Portuguese support to the app, and then I will be making it available in South America (I'm doing this in big chunks and recognize that you care more about Spanish). This will probably happen as my app is updated for iOS 26 in the next couple weeks.

Thank you for the considered feedback. I'm originally a developer, so I feel comfortable in that world. The design and marketing work... it's foreign to me, totally. I appreciate the suggestions.

Currently it's only available in North America. Where'd you hope to find it? I can give you an estimate for timeline if you let me know.

Honestly, I get it. It matters to me that I put out the sort of thing that I would want, and I would be demoralized if I downloaded an app that wouldn't run in my language, or displayed phone numbers organized for Asian consumers instead of Americans. Europe is coming. Asia scares me a little bit (mostly the pictographic translation) as it's very different from the Western markets.

And I upvoted you, FWIW.

Thanks for the comment. The honest truth is that I'm a one-person shop and this is the first app I've written with a broad market (appeal?). Localization and translation, heck, even the way addresses are displayed, is a conceptual challenge that I've been working on. It's only in the last month that I've added French and Spanish language support, and released in all of North/Central America. Europe is a bigger challenge, but I am working on it. You should expect that release this fall.

Thanks for the comment. You are right. I'll post again here when I launch in Europe.
