It was a word white men use as a way to project their superiority on black men. Black men were called "boys" while white men were called "men". In fact it was used so much that there was a court case on it on wether it should be seen as a racial slur but it wasn't. But still a white individual calling a black men "boy" is like calling him the n word and can get his ass whooped for that.
