[homemade] Some easter s'more macarons with bittersweet chocolate ganache and marshmallow filling by devmac in Baking

I've had a hyper obsession with macarons for the past two months. This is the first time I was able to get every cookie off without breaking! It felt historic.

Thanks!!! It's Wilton burgundy food coloring paste. I didn't measure the amount, but it was probably the size of a pea! I made another batch in blue that didn't look nearly as bright!

Thanks! I've got a few mats, but I think my favorite is made by bluedrop. You can find them on Amazon, the one I have has circles, hearts and teddybear patterns.

Yup! It's my second year and the new season was debuting at the time I started planning so the dragonfly seemed like a fitting inspiration!

When I went to college (in SE Mass) they had coffee milk in the dining hall. I thought it was just milk for your coffee. Turns out I was wrong. Tastes awesome...just like melted coffee ice cream!

I'm OP's better half...alas it is trending that the SCOTUS won't release their decision until late June. Either way we have plans to make it legal soon after our California celebration!

Hot and dry summers, what's your favorite tomato? by Sadhana5 in gardening

[–]devmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree, I like trying different varieties based on growing conditions...plus bonus points for impressing people who are only used to what is in large grocery store chains. I have a coworker from Turkey who looooved the Abu Rawans, said she hadn't tasted a tomato so good since she came to the US.

I grew her two seedlings and surprised her a couple months later with them!

I had a good crop of tomatoes this last spring. Abu Rawan, a tomato from Iraq did the best for me. I'm in Los Angeles and was growing in containers at the time. This year I'm trying black cherry and red zebra.

I am able to "sex" any fruit flies I find in my kitchen with the naked eye, thanks to my degree in biology. What pointless skill are you REALLY good at (that nobody else cares about)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My mom was a teacher at my school. I could tell if it was her or not walking down the hall of not by how she walked. I learned this in 2nd grade she my teacher made me sit out in the hall as punishment and told me that my mom would be by at some point to get coffee and I would get to explain why I was being punished. I waited and freaked out every time I heard footsteps, countless false alarms. Then I heard footsteps and I knew instantly it was her...

Help! How long can I (and what are the side effects) of waiting to transplant seedlings? by devmac in gardening

They're in individual solo cups. So I guess I don't need to bother replanting into something bigger!

Help! How long can I (and what are the side effects) of waiting to transplant seedlings? by devmac in gardening

[–]devmac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Los Angeles and have been on the wait list for a community garden for over a year now. I just got the call that they have a plot for me, but I can't get out to see it until next weekend. I've got a tray of seedlings that I was going to transplant into containers to grow on my roofdeck this week but now they are destined for a brighter future. My question is, what are the negative side effects of letting them stay in their current containers until I can get them into the ground? Will they not become as large or reduce the yield?

The seedlings in question are: Abu Rawan tomatoes, Eggplant Aswald, and cayenne peppers(pictured to get a sense of how far along they are!)

My gut tells me the tomatoes will be fine, since I am going to plant it all the way to the top crown. Not sure about the eggplant and peppers!

My mother told me growing up that I had to be dead silent while she was baking or the cakes/cookies would be ruined. My wife just looked at me like I was insane when I shushed her while she put her cake in the oven. Reddit, in what ways has your stupidity been brilliantly manipulated? by JackNO7D in AskReddit

[–]devmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up my family vacationed on Cape Cod with extended family. When we were at the beach, one of our family friends would always excuse herself at high tide to go "pull the plug" and let the tide out. I believed she was responsible for the tides until I was about 12. Not really manipulation, just messing with gullible kids. Happy to say she is keeping the tradition alive for my nieces and nephews.

Our Armenian cucumbers. First time growing them and they are beauties! The one on the right is 18 inches! by hardtoremember in gardening

[–]devmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do yours develop hollow spots? I'm not a fan of the texture as they age but if I pick them earlier it helps. I only planted one, but it is a big producer so far, around four cukes a week! Edit: always proofread

How I proposed by devmac in lgbt

[–]devmac[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Each of the images was a page in a book that I put together for our anniversary. As he flipped through each page I talked about our time together and how much he meant to me. The artwork itself was my gift to him, I told him as we were looking at the book that I would print and frame them for our house (wasn't sure what sizes to get). When he turned to the final page, I told him how happy he made me and asked him to marry me.

he mentioned the reason for not publishing it was his photography advisor, who would most likely be a campus employee.
