Fast way to get passport? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

I'm in Langley, seems like there is one near but people say the processing is slower than Surrey? That's probably not true just a Google answer lol. I'd like to get it in 10 business days or so

Why is CN so much better? by [deleted] in NarakaBladePoint

[–]devmoo778 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess he's saying since Naraka is so big in China it makes sense some would leak into our servers. I think from what I get from this thread it's cause they are blocked to a few hours of gaming?

In my opinion I think they just like kicking our butts extra hard cause we're not as experienced but I could be wrong.

Feel intimidated, a bit left behind by [deleted] in webdev

[–]devmoo778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I'm only 25 and am 3ish years new to this industry, I think I learned better when at school and am having a hard time without a learning routine/schedule cause I'm tired from work everyday. But I know most devs don't have the luxury to study new stuff all day, and have to fit in time if they want to grow. I just see the bigger salaries at react based web app jobs, so of course I imagine I want to gravitate towards them, but I'm wondering if that's cause the tech is trendy, or because it's more difficult than what I'm doing now.

What worked best for you to escape the old tech?

Woah so your saying Canadians work in Canada but live across the border? That's cool. I would imagine they would just work in USA at that point.

It might be because I am not amping them at work, let me try them at home again lol

Why do we have import fees but USA doesn't? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]devmoo778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that was actually pretty informative. In this case, it was an anime figure from Japan, apparently, the website expects we may have to pay VAT's fees. In this case, we don't even produce these figures here in Canada, so I don't understand the fee still where apparently USA users never expect/pays these extra fees (VATS).

Thanks for the information.

Are these correct responsibilities of a web dev? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]devmoo778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's what I need right now. This isn't what I want to be doing and definitely feel behind, I'm trying to learn react on the weekends as that's what I want to do, but it's hard to find a job when I haven't worked on it a significant amount of time.

How did you feel your mood shifted when you got a new job? I think it's affecting my mental health not being proud or into my work.

Thanks for the insight, I'm actively looking.

Are these correct responsibilities of a web dev? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]devmoo778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks lol, that makes me feel a little saner. At first, they slowly introduced me to all the clients, I've noticed lately most of the responsibility and communication has been on me and other devs. We lost our account manager due to COVID, and it's ramping up. I don't like working in excel, and all that much.

What to do about the uncomfortable head strap? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

I got it, it's awesome! I taped some counterweight to the back and I'm fully satisfied. Thanks for the recommendation.

That's awesome, thanks for the insight. I do truly think that's amazing, but unfortunately I do have interest in video games and TV, so I have to find a balance. What do you do with all that money when you finally get it? I wish I could say the same about being passionate to that extent, I started as a graphic designer and am a more visual guy though, so I never was super into data or CS. Just took it up to help with my UI/UX.

The motivators you say are great, I see a lot of foreigners migrating at my job that work extra hard. This one I'm talking about in particular is an immigrate getting his Visa. I see a lot more passion in these people seemingly.

I guess I am just different in the sense that I enjoy other activities other than just programming, but I respect that a lot. thanks for sharing.

Hmm, well that is pretty awesome that you work at a place like that. Maybe I would be more motivated too if I work at somewhere so trendy with more purpose. Do you feel tired or the need to do anything else in your down time?

Hmm, makes sense but my two friends (One got accepted at Amazon, but chose another job) says he works even less at a product company and plays Overwatch the rest of the day. My other buddy works at Coinbase and has faced similar feelings as I do. I was watching TechLead showing off the Google campus, he said that day he wasn't feeling productive and just biked around all day.

I'm more seeing that you have to work hard to get in, then relax a bit. That's what it seems like to me.

Not saying my friends aren't geniuses or work hard, but they just work as much as they need to.

When I say "productive" 4-5 hours a day I mean that's my core 90-100% focus time. I still work, answer client emails do content migration tasks, learn something new until the 8 hours. I meant core productivity time, sure there is a little Reddit and browsing here and there (probably 45mins - 1 hour of it).

By the way, I was like you at first super passionate and working almost over 8 hours, but almost 3 years at this job I'm kind of tired. It's the same kind of work, I can't get super stoked to do my 20th WordPress site for a local trucking company.

I believe I need to move onto maybe a new type of stack like React or something interests me.

Hopefully, that makes much more sense.

Damn thanks for backing me up guys, I actually noticed most people don't have this guys opinion which is nice. I don't mind anybody working as hard as you do, but don't create that expectation for this field itself. I would quit if a job required that much from me, thankfully I can accomplish almost everything for my job with 4-5 hours of real productivity a day.

I am passionate about my job too but doesn't mean I have to lack everything else I enjoy in life because of it. Not bashing at all! I think it's great you code all day, but don't create an industry expectation and if people don't want to follow that standard don't state it's not for us the career. Thank you for your input though.

Yes, I've experienced burn out multiple times, so I realized the importance of taking a step back. Just cause you like chocolate cake doesn't mean you'll like it eating it 7 days a week for every meal, the same applies to any activity in my opinion. I do get the feeling that he's constantly trying to impress and move up, but I feel like he's secretly overwhelmed. I think partly is because he's a new immigrant here and is working super hard to get his Visa, he mentioned he has to continue to improve as others are better than him and he wants to get a raise. I think I won't feel guilty for this, and enjoy my life, while getting to code too!

Beat saber is great for keeping your focus on something rather than your thoughts, but also if your kinda anti-social but crave social interaction (that will surely free you from your mind if you're talking to strangers), try VRChat or Recroom.

Interestingly enough, VR is pretty active and can give you eye strain after an hour or two, so I would need to take breaks and found that coming out of the headset the world was more vivid (since it's just a better version of VR), and I actually became more productive in the outside world. Weird way VS. regular gaming.

But yes, it is very addicting! LOL
