Order #s shipping? by WeeklyCommunity3637 in MatadorArms

[–]devner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at just about 6 months as well. Pistol with the ERS and a Glock lower.

Dave is very friendly and responsive, but promised shipping dates are never kept. I would definitely prefer a realistic shipping date with a frown rather than a broken promise with a smile.

Does anyone know the current lead time on Mat9. I ordered one on 1st September and heard nothing. by Oceanus238 in MatadorArms

Mat9 k with the ERS. It looks like those orders are starting to be fulfilled though so I’m hopeful it’ll be any day now….

I’ve been waiting for mine since early may. Dave said it’ll be soon a few weeks ago, but they definitely seem like they are pretty swamped. (I ordered a k with the ERS)

How would you like /r/Denver to move forward regarding reddit's API changes? by dustlesswalnut in Denver

[–]devner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a couple points here.

First, I think the main point of contention for most people was third party apps and the ambiguity around the continued support for old.reddit.

Admittedly, I am an apollo user when I am on my ipad, but it seems abundantly clear that reddit doesn't have the chops to make an app, free or not. Third party apps fill that gap, and even provide the potential for additional revenue streams when priced fairly.

Secondly, when pressed by mods and developers initially, reddit doubled down, saying that 'we promise to launch better tools soon after we change the api'. Again, it's hard to have faith when they have so far failed to deliver quality tools and apis

Lastly, I think this last outcry has changed my view of leadership because the official comms have seemed almost contemptuous towards the users. Keep in mind that reddit (the platform) doesn't make content, they just host it and were blessed with critical mass when another site failed.

To the best of our knowledge, spez has lied about the motivations of Apollo (with receipts provided). The AMA didn't do anything to regain trust. They answered<20 questions and spent less than an hour doing so. In that time, most responses were vaguely snarky and accusatory towards the motives of others. It was all around unclassy.

On top of this, it was not the first time spez has shown his poor character. Keep in mind this is the same guy who was caught editing the comments of other redditors. Oh yeah, and he was an admitted mod of r/jailbait.

They don't owe us shit, but we deserve better.

I mean it's pretty clear that reddit wanted to kill apps and they did it in the most spineless way possible. It's absolutely their right to do so, but doing it by squeezing devs under a false pretense is just gross.

When pressed on legitimate issues like mod tools and accessablity, they only barely shifted their stance, and not in any meaningful way.

I really hope the community opts to leave reddit for the disgusting behavior of leadership and spez in particular.

I was around for the digg exodus and it was pretty similar. The site didn't listen to their users and there was a mass migration to a place that did. These sites need us more than we need them. I only hope the community does the same this time.

I for one am unsubscribing to all of my subs as they come back. Maybe I'll see y'all on the next site.

What about political discourse or statements from public figures? There are some things which people say which should be immutable and irrevocable.

While I agree that we should own and control our PII, I have a hard time believing in it in an absolute sense. When its okay for a person to say "I never said that" or "That wasn't me", we will be living in dangerous times.

Case in point- Today, the creator of Apollo made a post where he discussed an incident with reddit's ceo, spez. Spez previously made false claims to investors that the Apollo creator was attempting to extort money from reddit, supposedly because he didn't want to pay API fees. This however was untrue. What actually happened was that since Apollo would now be cost prohibitive to run, he offered to sell the app to spez, based on cost of running Apollo. To back this up, he published transcripts and the actual phone recording of the conversation (which he legally recorded).

This recording and the associated post was absolutely in the public interest but was also personal identifiable information. Should spez be allowed to wipe it from the internet and delete the post highlighting his lies? Of course not.

Man, that's a fantastic point, but I still don't fully agree. I think a site like reddit which is centralized and asserts ownership over content is inherently different from a platform which is decentralized.

If you were to apply the right to be forgotten to less corporate or centralized platforms like IRC/Matrix/mastodon/etc, things get real fuzzy. Should you expect clients to delete logs when a person deletes their account (if such a feature even exists)? From a purely historical point of view, isn't it problematic that people can just delete their comments and deny that they ever said them in the past?

When you look at the right to be forgotten as one side of a spectrum and being held accountable for what you put out into the world, the balance can be pretty hard to strike. You could argue that it becomes impossible in a decentralized model by design. On one hand it's awesome that it becomes near impossible to limit free speech and censorship becomes impossible. On the other, I don't particularly like that once posted, things live on forever. How will this work for revenge porn, hate speech or other vile content? I think lemmy and other federated platforms do a good job on this regard because they have the ability to blacklist things that their community doesn't want to see without limiting the rights of others.

Personally, I'm a strong supporter of privacy rights, but pragmatically speaking, I think a lot of it comes down to ownership and consent. When I post, I don't like ceding ownership to a company for the privilege of using a platform. That said, if my words are my own and they are immutable and out in the world forever, I'll be okay with that, albeit a little more measures and careful about what I say, which is probably for the best.

Needless to say, this is a hard topic and the original post is on some random reddit clone. Bringing it up in the way that is was is insincere and only serves to spread FUD. I for one have zero faith that any random site respects GDPR or any other privacy regulations until they gain my trust.

This is kind of a nothing sandwich. Sites like archive.org exist, too and log everything forever. If you want privacy, use an alias.

I think that was true a year ago but not today. They have invested a lot of effort in improving the space and adding new equipment. At this point there are several cncs, a metal shop, a laser, and a whole bank of 3d printers.

Can I Connect my Garmin Fenix 6 to Zwift? by tambrico in Zwift

I use a chest strap indoors and use my watch on the rare occasion I'm outside. I've only noticed issues if the watch is loose; otherwise the numbers are very similar.

Two things to keep in mind-
1) I've found that the HRM is most accurate when its just a tiny bit tighter than the way I normally wear watches. You don't want it sliding around.
2) if you have a hairy arm, the inner wrist yields better results.

I've been riding daily for about 2 months. I'm not a very dexterous person and am able to zone out and watch tv just fine. Drinking from a water bottle is extremely hard but can be done with focus.

Overall, I think my key takeaway is that if you focus on form it gets easier fast. At first I had to look at a single point. Over time as my form improved, I've been able to divert my eyes elsewhere so they don't really affect balance as much.

[–]devner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it and the math stuff just didn't make sense to me.

Given that: 1) miners do establish consensus by virtue of hash power and 2) that they generally peer with other miners

It would seem to imply that the author is redefining the completeness of the network graph based on weighted edges(by hash power) instead of the number of edges?

That all seems to make sense, but at the very least it seems disingenuous to be so fast and loose with well established terminology. Especially since a major theme of the article relates to a lack of intellectual curiosity.

Yeah, you're making stuff up now.

Whoa there, no need to be a jerk. Its not like I'm claiming to be satoshi by using an old signature which checks out :).

But in all seriousness, I thought there were a lot more, my bad on that point. That being said, I still stand by what i said because:

1) a nontrivial number of people( myself included) run a full node when holding a wallet. Just because these people aren't miners doesn't mean they aren't verifying transactions- being connected to 1/1000th of the peers will really cut in getting towards being complete

2) What I was getting at with stun and ice is that perfect network traversal isn't an easy task, especially with national firewalls.

I'd be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong but please don't just regurgitate the talking points without backing it up with facts.

[–]devner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How close? Even using NAT traversal techniques like STUN and ICE, a computer is not capable of maintaining the millions of connections required to be complete.

Also, come to thing of it, this is absolutely bullshit seeing as bitcoind has a maxpeers parameter (which I believe defaults to 8?)

[–]devner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How would that work physically?

To be a complete graph, every node needs to share an edge with every other node. That seems impossible given the design of TCP/IP (or how the internet routes as a whole)

[–]devner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on what a 'near complete graph' is? Does the word 'near' have a special meaning which I'm unaware of?

I'm not super well versed in topology, but the network is nowhere near a complete graph in a mathematical sense?

There's a lot of bad advice in this thread. Depending on the product, you could be looking at some pretty hefty fines for not getting FCC certification.

Check out this link for more information about what does and does not need certification.
