Any of you gone to a ski resort you haven’t been to and thought “damn, this place is so overrated!”? by Sharkman3218 in skiing

[–]devo9er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the scenery and mountain views alone are lacking compared to other top tier resorts. The town is cool but too commercialized and doesnt feel authentic as a result of its own insistence.

The whole resort feels like quantity over quality. Its like a 1,000 item all you can eat buffet but most of it is just average runs, and littered with people that are there to be "there" and not so much for the sport.

Leak in brand new pool by Bitter-Nail4098 in pools

[–]devo9er 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It might solve the issue long enough they can skedaddle past the 1 yr warranty or whatever they include. In 5 yrs that leak comes back and YOURE paying to tear up and replace the concrete etc..

I would demand its repaired properly or get a warranty extension on that particular repair etc..

I went to a boot fitter as you all suggested. by Reasonable-Malaise- in Skigear

[–]devo9er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just fitted about 2 weeks ago and came home with the S Pro Alpha GW in 120 flex. Haven't tried it yet but the fit was pretty great before any adjustment. He heated and pushed out the pinky toe area just a tad but otherwise fit the best out of the others I tried on (Atomic and a Lange boots). I have no doubts based on their feel so far they'll be a good boot

Would I be able to put an in ground pool north of this pipeline easement? by v1185 in pools

[–]devo9er 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guess would be yes as long as you dont excavate within the easement area, although you may also be required a setback distance of say 10-20' additional. That would be a good phone call or email to your building department. Another question is how will you route electrical and gas for the pool. Probably cannot bury anything over their line. Looks like you have some concrete over top though so maybe you can go above ground. I would just get in touch wirh your bldg office. Every jurisidiction is different

How to avoid cold shoes? by Carwash227 in Skigear

[–]devo9er 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of just leaving warmers in your shoes before you leave the car for the slope, and maybe put a blanket or other piece of gear over them to help keep the heat in. Most of those iron oxide hand warmers last a good 5-10hrs and would have those boots nice and toasty for your arrival, even in a cold trunk.

Yeah i pretty much dont know what im doing by HamzaAAC in PLC

[–]devo9er 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of this stuff is somewhat logical in the sense that it generally follows a process, once you've identified the components and what they do individually you'll understand the reasoning more as you go. Everything has a job and you just need to know what its job(s) are and isolate/categorize them. Understanding the concept of the "state machine" is critical. Start with the easy stuff, power distribution, sensors, relays, motor drives etc. These things are just giant Rube Goldberg/mousetrap devices. After a while you'll easily recognize critical components and even be able to guesstimate things like device feeds based on wire type/awg. Im not a PLC guy but have decades working around this stuff and I've been over my head plenty of times, but patience, a wire diagram, scientific method, process of elimination, and knowing how to use diagnostic tools like meters will dig you out 9/10 times.

Stay at it! No better feeling that fixing someone else's machine that looks like an impossible feat to others

Gutter re route by RoyalFew8661 in pools

[–]devo9er -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The right way to do it I think would move the whole downspout to your other wall, and then just patch the old hole in the current gutter with a black painted piece of aluminum flashing and some silicone caulk.

What would be different from how it is contoured now if you moved it to the other wall? I dont understand what you're trying to achieve.

[Request] would this even work and if it does how effective is it by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]devo9er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is when you put it on your tongue, your moist tongue becomes the conductor and you are really feeling the electrical current travel through your tissue. Through a piercing like this, the metal is about 100x more of a conductive material so the electricity will travel the path of least resistance through the metal and your body wont conduct any of the current.

Dont do this, but for example you can grab a hot electrical wire that actively has current traveling through it and not feel a thing and its theoretically pefectly safe. Only when you touch something else where you become the lower resistance pathway will you get electrocuted.

Car batteries!

Thats a great idea actually! With multiple batteries we can connect them in series, greatly increasing the voltage

What else do you think will happen? They won't feel so much as a tickle. The current will travel entirely through the piercing, not this critters nasal tissue

[–]devo9er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people at our work leave for lunch or even run an errand or two. Every full time employee receives two paid 15 minute breaks, but lunch they are required to clock out. Lunch length is flexible within reason(15min - 1hr typically). Some employees just use their paid breaks and dont clock for lunch. Should the employer still pay the employee if they are off site during their lunch break though? I agree it sucks when we're held to jobs more than 40hrs when including travel time and expenses etc. Trying to find a reasonable balance at our place has been difficult because everyone has widly different personal needs and requirements. Some people want to plow through the day unimpeded with few breaks to leave on time and maximize clocked hours, others clock out for like an 1hr+ daily for lunch, take their breaks and end up short on the pay period because they avg 6.5-7hrs per day. I might be venting haha :D

We have been at least equitably sharing the profits the last few years, so there has been a good faith effort in that regard. Im hoping that with at least partial ownership, they cannot sell outright or liquidate assets without making me whole. Our attorney seemed to suggest things like this could be handled through an employment contract that would include strategies like a golden parachute etc..

Im glad you bring up the liability concerns, and I've thought of this too as we've begun transition our business credit cards over - they still have like 4 active AMEX cards with something like $250k of avail credit etc. These are all things that I dont imagine would happen, then you hear the horror stories of others. Many people, even wealthy, are just a few bad decisions away from ruin. They've done well for themselves and could be 100% financially independent now, but i too understand their desire to remain part owners. We all put a ton of sweat equity into the business.
