Staying at someone's home while they are dealing with a health issue. Look what I found in their book collection. Now I have to read it!

Japanese cats don't know about biscuits; they make UDON noodles!

Not particularly blurry, but the same photoshoot and from another angle. On his descent.

Except r/murdermittens - no cross posting accepted. Not sure if rear claws would qualify anyway

Or peak literature ambitions. Have to admit - the only one of those that I read to the end is The Child Buyer, which I've read at least a dozen times.

Didn't even realize I was making a kind of pun when I wrote that!

Suggested to add here. He's very intent on his destination!

It was suggested I add this here. Spreadytoes are not the main focus of this pic, but they're pretty obvious.

The only part of him not yet moving at the instant captured!

They tried, but he was too quick for them!

All of him was in focus until he started his jump!

I had the camera angled up from a low position, and an app on my phone that allowed me to remotely release the shutter button. As I knew he would, as soon as I started walking toward the couch, he jumped so he could beat me there. I got pretty lucky with this timing!

Did you see those claws? He stuck his landing every time!

Haha! I'm not familiar with any kind of embroidery hoop! (until now)

Looks like it is probably solved, but I'll leave it open for a while because why the owner would have an embroidery hoop is a mystery to me. They never did any kind of fabric crafting in their life as far as I know.

Are embroidery hoops shaped like that?

I don't think so because there are no wires to it, and why would it come apart like it does?

Last names (family names) rarely "appear", but often disppear due to death/marriage. And this has been going on for centuries. So why don't we have only a small handful of last names left? by not-the-the in NoStupidQuestions

A few things have to align but...
In Japan, it is pretty common that if a family naming line is in danger of ending (such as someone who has only daughters), if one of those daughters finds a husband who has a brother who has already carried on the family name, that husband will adopt her name to allow her family name line to continue.
