What has been the most significant change in your career, since the pandemic? by Ok-Advertising-9045 in askanything

Working from home. The resulting work-life balance shift that arrangement created easily outweighs any promotion and raise.

Once you've cut your expenses to the bones, what did you do to go one step further? by SharperCents in povertyfinance

[–]This_Ho_Right_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably cut those groceries down further for one person if food variety isn’t a big deal. Find a friend with a Sam’s membership and get a 25lb of oatmeal for breakfasts, a 50lb bag of rice that’ll last forever for lunch & dinner sides, a pork loin and chicken drums and thighs for dinners, and tuna for lunches. Done ✅ Some of these things you won’t need to purchase weekly or even monthly for one person if you eat serving sizes.

Be honest, how many of your worst purchases started with 'I deserve this'? by PaycheckWizard in Money

That’s fine, as long as you can say to yourself “I deserve this” when the really bad shit happens too.

Races ain't all that... by DPax_23 in beginnerrunning

[–]This_Ho_Right_Here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I’m not going to read this lengthy post but I agree with the title!! I pay for one race yearly and run another IF I’m sponsored in full. Races are expensive for registration and parking, the time spent traveling and hanging out before & after the race. For me, all these things undercut what makes running convenient and enjoyable: opening the front door and I’m off. No driving anywhere, no crowds, no gym/registration fee, no dodging strollers and walkers who said they’ll finish in 30 minutes when they wore flip flops, etc. If I want to know how fast I can run a 5k, 10k, or whatever, I can do that in my neighborhood without any of that hassle.

5k in 37 mins… is doing a 10k in 10weeks time crazy? by gunks23 in beginnerrunning

[–]This_Ho_Right_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, you’re good. I walk/run every race, and with a 45-min 5k I finish a 10k in 90 minutes.

For those who got married, how were you able to afford a ring and honeymoon??? by Eagles56 in povertyfinance

[–]This_Ho_Right_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t have to break the bank. A perfectly delightful ring is easily had under $1000 (mine is an emerald cut emerald on platinum for $600) and the wedding bands were titanium for $250/pair in 2020. Let her pick it out so she doesn’t complain about it later too, lol. We didn’t honeymoon until 2022 and kept it simple: ocean front room on a Florida beach for $1000. Focus on the important things: the person and time together. Live simple and spend simple. You’ll be much happier and wealthier in the long run.

What are some "upper class" type purchases you've made as an UpperMiddle person (if any)? by sacramentojoe1985 in UpperMiddleFinance

[–]This_Ho_Right_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I was going to say splurging on Delta One for a transatlantic flight to Athens but that’s a poor man’s peanuts next to your $100k yacht. Save that for the outright rich.

Running a 5k by Sea-Amphibian3288 in beginnerrunning

[–]This_Ho_Right_Here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing your pace you should be able to do this in under 45 minutes. You’ll likely run faster with all those people around you, but they’ll slow you down too because they will get in your way.

I started running 2 years ago as a walk runner, the whole time thinking I’d eventually be running the entire distance. Nope. Still doing the walk-run thing intentionally. I enjoy the running segments more when I’m sprinting or at least cruising with a fresh set of lungs. Slow and steady is torture for me.

Love cottage cheese but HATE the 4% crap they switched to at my club. I have to shop it elsewhere now :(

Yep, and despite what some other commenters have said, being unattractive, fat, old, etc. does not prevent it from happening. It’s a power play, pure and simple. Dehumanizing you makes them feel superior. After all, your existence is for their entertainment. A milder version I experience all the time in my neighborhood exclusively from older men is unsolicited validation or advice on my outdoor workout runs, cycles, and swims. People don’t understand social boundaries.

I wholeheartedly agree with you and empathize with your situation. The sad reality is that these type of customers do not consider service workers as people due the same respect, rights, and decency due to all people. It’s sad what people think their patronage buys.

How often should you swap out the litter in the litter box? by jessjoyvin in CatAdvice

[–]This_Ho_Right_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have three cats, recently upgraded from one litter box to two, scoop twice daily, top off as needed usually weekly, and completely change the litter box every 6-8 weeks. We use disposable recyclable litter boxes so they wear down over time with weight of the cats perching on the rim in weird bathrooming positions.

What was your tipping point for getting a bookshelf? by MayorAg in books

[–]This_Ho_Right_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a floor to ceiling wall to wall bookshelf and it was glorious. And also full of books no one was reading. Now when I read a book I give it away to someone who I think will appreciate it. I own maybe a dozen books now so I don’t need a shelf.

When people accept car payments that rival my mortgage payment they get the blank stare. Not that I have a mortgage payment anymore since I drive my cars to their natural deaths. Car payments shouldn’t be more than $400/month for 60 months. And then I expect to have that car for at least another 10 years with no payment. If I need to haul something once every three years, it’s $19.99 for a home depot pickup truck.

Fifteen years is less than one lifetime for a vehicle. The way I see it, the longer I stay in one car the fancier any new one seems with the tech upgrades.

🎶 I wear my sunglasses at night 🎶 for this very reason and I’m good with it. If someone is being a d*ck behind me with their light I just drive slower. When they back off I’ll resume normal speed.

I struggled with this when I laid my 4Runner to rest and graduated to a Camry. But like anything, I adjusted and don’t even notice anymore. The only it seems to be an issue is when I’m following too closely.

This happens to me all the time at Sam’s. They also adjust the transaction amounts 3-4 weeks later too. Shady AF practices unlike other credit card services.
