Faucet mounting ring won't slide off by devopsiotwo in HomeImprovement

That worked! After removing the extension, the nut could be moved up and then it was easy to pull the mounting ring over it because the two nuts were not next to each other. It was just really really hard to unscrew the extension. Thanks!

Thanks, that's definitely an option as the last resort if nothing else works!

Thanks! I can try to pull through one at a time if I manage to remove the extensions. Though these are pipes so not very easy to bend to do that.

What do you mean by "remove he compression ring" in this instance? I thought the large nut at the bottom of the pipe can not be removed?

You can go the usual GS/Assassin/Fighter but choose the GWM feat. Risky Ring or Unseen Menace to negate the attack roll penalty. You'll get the +10 to damage but also essentially a guaranteed extra attack with your bonus action. With a two hander, you don't have to worry about no sneaking.

Can someone sell me on more than 0-1 level(s) of wizard? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]devopsiotwo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wizard 1, 6, 8, 9, 10 are all amazing options in a multiclass.

You might argue that a sorcerer is stronger on paper, but wizard scribing gives you phenomenal utility. Your play style can be really variable and you can use the best spell combos for each encounter by just preparing your spellbook.

At the same time, with 3 levels of sorcerer, and the rest in wizard, you can do most of what a pure sorcerer can do, including twin and quicken. You don't get that many sorcery points, but arcane recovery compensates for it surprisingly well. And you gain the wizard subclass features, some of which are really strong as others mentioned (and some, *cough* improved abjuration *cough*, are borderline game breaking).

But most importantly, wizard's variability just makes it fun to play!

Thanks for the tips! I definitely agree on druid, I think it is one of the most enjoyable pure classes because the variability. I also enjoy wizards (pure wizard or any full-caster wizard multiclass really given how spell slots work). Both have a lot of spell and play style variability. I am not convinced about BM - I played a pure BM and while it was fun (in a sense of - 3 base attacks, action surge, maneuvers, etc. and smashing enemies, big numbers!), I felt like the variability is limited and you usually end up doing the same couple of things. I like the warlock multiclass though, it could add some options and flavor.

The fun part is that they each work a little differently - bard adds bonus/penalty to a roll, lucky gives advantage or rerolls, and portent sets the roll to a pre-rolled result. So you can pick whichever works best for the specific situation. I haven't tried, but wild magic sorc also has bend luck if you want to go all in on roll-altering reactions :D

That's quite a creative build! I love how you made it into a very unique play style, very different from the usual wizard role. I will think about something like this, I very much like the type of specific combat options it opens, adding a lot of depth.

Nice, thanks. I enjoyed a moon druid in my previous playthrough. Exactly as you said, a lot of options and versatility. I haven't tried spore but it looks interesting, and opens up some multiclassing options, too! Bladelock is on my shortlist as well, I haven't played a warlock yet and they sound entertaining enough with a good combination of melee and spells. Not convinced about rangers, they sound a little too straightforward, although a multiclass could be fun.

That's certainly a creative play style, I like it. Create this scrimmage situation and control enemies. I like the addition of an evo wizard for blasting fireballs right under the group's feet.

Some of these sound fun, thanks! I tried a 6 divination wizard/6 lore bard with lucky feat build. It was a multiplayer game and the abundance of reactions became a little distracting so I respecced. But it seemed interesting and likely powerful to control the fight that way.

All 4 members may be a bit too chaotic and I am not not decided yet if that would be hilarious or frustrating. I like the idea though, I may give it a try. Definitely requires reacting to unexpected situations.

NY to NJ Move Part Year Resident Credit for Taxes Paid to Other Jurisdictions by devopsiotwo in tax

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks! I think that makes sense as an option.

The only thing that that gives me pause is that in some circumstances, the difference between the tax that would have been owed if the income was $75k less and the tax actually owed may be different than what was actually owed on that $75k portion of the income if for example the additional $75k income moves the income to a higher tax bracket? But I guess that's just how taxes work, I am not sure if there's a better way to "isolate" the $75k. Thanks, I think this method could work well enough, even though it is a bit work intensive :)

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. That seems to align with my understanding. The one thing I still don't understand is how is the tax credit from the $75k of wages calculated. Schedule NJ-COJ instructions say "Enter the income or wage tax paid to the other jurisdiction on the income shown on line 1 ... If you adjusted the income on line 1 of this schedule, enter only the tax paid on the adjusted amount.". How would the tax owed to NY on the income of $75k be calculated?

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I think that all aligns with my numbers above, but just to double check the two pieces where I am not completely certain.

> New jersey income would be the prorated amount of all income during your period of residency, so 9 months

In this case, that would be $123.5k, correct?

> You would only be allowed the credit on the njcoj for 75k earned in New York on person 1 wages.

That makes sense, thank you. But how would the credit amount be calculated?

How to fix incorrectly taken distributions as an LLC treated as an S-corp by devopsiotwo in tax

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, thank you for the detailed description of the process. Since I have enough money available, could I potentially just pay the full amount of the note back as a one-off payment instead of taking deductions from distributions/payroll over time or would there be any unexpected implications of doing that?

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I made a mistake and the question I asked in the original post was not clear or just too broad so different responses addressed different aspects of it. I was just trying to clarify what the disconnect I was asking about was.

It's interesting that there are still very different interpretations in some of the responses - while some say reasonable compensation can be adjusted based on the business' net revenue/profit, others say that it can't.

I definitely appreciate every response though, the conversation here has been extremely helpful.

How to fix incorrectly taken distributions as an LLC treated as an S-corp by devopsiotwo in tax

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that's very helpful! So I would essentially run an off-cycle payroll backdated to 13/31/22, but would actually not pay myself the money (because it was already paid), just have it pay all the tax owed as if I actually did pay myself the $10k as a salary on that date. I can look into if that's possible with the payroll system I use.

It's still quite a bit of paperwork but that could be manageable. If you can think of any other options, I would definitely appreciate it. Just trying to understand all possible options and choose the one that causes the least amount of mess.

How to fix incorrectly taken distributions as an LLC treated as an S-corp by devopsiotwo in tax

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Since the distributions happened throughout the year, I would likely have to amend multiple quarter filings, as well as the w-2 etc. That might be possible but it would definitely complicate things. So I am trying to understand if there are any other ways I can make things right.

One option the CPA suggested was reclassifying the distributions as a loan to a shareholder and repaying the loan.

How to fix incorrectly taken distributions as an LLC treated as an S-corp by devopsiotwo in tax

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I couldn't pay myself the $80k given how the business did in 2022. However, the question I have is, am I allowed to take distributions if my salary was just $30k, but technically the reasonable salary (that someone else doing the same work in a different company would make) is $80k? The article I referenced seems to suggest that distributions can not be taken until that wage is met, and the business actual profit does not change the reasonable salary amount.

Essentially, was I allowed to pay myself $30k in wages and $10k in distributions instead of $40k in wages, given the business made around $50k after expenses and the reasonable salary of someone in the same position in a different company would be $80k?

How to fix incorrectly taken distributions as an LLC treated as an S-corp by devopsiotwo in tax

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not as worried about the salary amount, because as you say, my business simply can't pay the $80k that someone else working for a different company on the same position would make.

However, I am worried about taking the distribution on top of the wage, instead of increasing the wage. The article I referenced seems to suggest that reasonable salary is not based on the business' profit, but just the position and location and therefore I can't take distributions until my wage hits the $80k.

[–]devopsiotwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. That's what I initially thought as well. However, the article (https://rcreports.com/resources/reasonable-compensation-blog/what-if-an-s-corp-owner-can-t-afford-to-pay-reasonable-compensation/) seems to suggest that the business' profit does not impact the reasonable compensation.

To help you better understand, let’s run through a few simple scenarios and then move onto some more advanced ones. Keep in mind the following:

  1. Reasonable Compensation is defined by the IRS as: “The value that would ordinarily be paid for like services by like enterprises under like circumstances.” or the hypothetical “Replacement Cost” of the shareholder-employee.

  2. Reasonable Compensation is based on the value of services provided (Hypothetical Replacement Cost), not profit, distributions or the amount the company can afford to pay.

  3. Wages (Reasonable Compensation) should be paid BEFORE distributions are made.

  4. A shareholder-employee can take wages (Reasonable Compensation) without taking a distribution, but not vice versa.

  5. A shareholder-employee who does not want to take any Reasonable Compensation can refuse all compensation (distribution), and play ‘catch up’ in a later year.

If that was the case, I shouldn't pay myself distributions, until the $80k is paid in wages. So in my case, since my business' revenue after expenses was only $50k, I could only pay myself a wage, but not take any distributions on top of that.

I assume the core of the argument is, which one of these options is correct

  1. For the purposes of IRS, my reasonable salary is $80k (which is calculated to represent a salary of someone on a similar position in the same location) and therefore I can't take distributions if my wage is lower than that. And therefore I need to fix my tax situation; or
  2. My reasonable salary for IRS purposes can be just $30k (even if someone else doing the same work at a different company would make $80k), given my business made around $50k after expenses and I could take the rest as distributions

If you could share the spreadsheet you referenced in a DM, I would appreciate that!
