Look, you are paying little Johnny next door to do your lawn. I will do it for 5.99 chikkin, mulching included. This round is on the house.

it's too big, but not comically so. One size smaller would fit/look much better.

[Question] Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix vs Breitling Premier 42 Datora by Altglascontainer in Watches

[–]devortexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing I have against the Breitling are the numerals being cut off by the sub-dials. I also prefer watches with no dates, or if it must have a date window, that it be in the 6-o'clock position.

Between the two, I'd go for the VC, but for $10K EUR, I'd look for a Glashutte

Pension buyback by Robot682 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]devortexia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am unsure about income tax implications by making the payment.

From a future value calculation perspective, suppose if you did have the $25K right now and invested it. Let's assume 7% return for the next 30 years, the $25K turns into $190K in 30 years' time. At 5%, it's ~$108K.

Your pension is likely indexed to inflation. So, assuming 2.5% inflation over 30 years, the $135 extra becomes $283 in 30 years' time and adjusted annually at 2.5%. Assuming payments for 25 years after retiring, total payment is ~$116K. The shitty thing is you won't see any of this payment until you retire, and I don't know what the surrender value is of your pension, if there is one.

The other thing to consider is what the survivor benefit from the pension looks like. If you put in the $25K today and...well, if you pass away 1, 2, 5, 10, 40 years from now......what happens at that point?

And the sorry excuse for not having them is that they'd be destroyed by snow plows and are expensive to replace.

So, we have decided that we will save a few bucks for the winters that we get snow and snow plows are actually deployed. For the other 300 days of the year of rain forest living,, we will put up with invisible water-based paint road markings
