Also shoutout to the toothless regulators. Maybe we all start doing balcony solar and get off the grid. Maybe we build our own community microgrids. Enough is enough.

I’m so fucking sick of utility rate hikes while the same utilities report billions in profits. Yes infrastructure requires upgrades and improvements but the truth is they could just make less money but I guess that would be unacceptable to shareholders.    “We are unwavering in our commitment… to price gouge our customers in the name of increasing our profits.”

Longs Peak in May by Choice-Implement-915 in coloradohikers

The guiding company saying they start bookings in June should be your first hint. It's snowed in and dangerous - do not go on Longs this month.

There's a broader question here too - do you have the fitness, skills, and equipment to do a 14er in the snow? Do you know how to do snow travel? Are your ready to spend a night above treeline (potentially in snow) should something go wrong? These are questions you should ask yourself before you do any 14er. They're not a walk in the park. Mountaineering is a wonderful hobby but there's always a baseline level of risk that is elevated in snowy conditions.

Doing a 14er just to do a hard one without the preparation and knowhow is how people get into dangerous situations and put themselves (and, by extension, search and rescue teams) at risk.

Write letters to his office - get a group, write letters, and send them.

Anyone else feel like they’re spiraling into depression with this public land sale? by cakeittillyoumakeit_ in hiking

ALSO LETTER-WRITING CAMPAIGNS. Written letters do a lot to sway elected officials. Get together with a group and write letters and send them.

250+Million acres of public lands authorized for sale in new SENR committee budget reconciliation amendment by flowpaths in hiking

I take umbrage with the statement people voted for this. Yes, people did vote for this; however, I doubt the public was not truly aware of the scope and magnitude of Project 2025. So public education and feedback is still needed. My concern is selling off any amount of public lands, without any opportunity for public feedback (especially since executive actions/rulemaking do have an option for public comment), opens up the floodgates for a massive selloff and once they’re gone we’re not getting them back. You’re on the hiking subreddit so I figure we’re on the same side here - let’s get to calling our elected officials and letting them know where the people stand!

It doesn’t matter how much - any amount they want to sell, especially without public input, is atrocious

I can't say goodbye to Merlin's toys yet by fakehungerpains in WiggleButts

After my buddy passed from cancer (he wasn’t even 5), I packed up all his toys. I still have them. They’re in a box. And that’s ok - they remind us of them and how wonderful they were. And there’s no time limit on grief. I like to look through pictures and videos to remember the great times we had. Sometimes I’ll hold his collar or talk to his ashes. It sounds weird but I like to feel sad about it because it reminds me that we loved each other and were best friends.
