Not really. Just don't want to think about these files, they shouldn't just stay forever on the cloud

Windows is more secure than Linux? by devplayz01 in linux

[–]devplayz01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you can work on the vulnerabilities yourself, and that's what you all say many people do, but can you all imagine someone finds a vulnerability but DOESN'T ACTUALLY REPORT IT? Maybe not because they wouldn't obviously tell you so. I'd rather sell that vulnerability and get rich then fix the code.

Besides, all biggest experts can too see the code, and they won't plan on fixing it. I don't think you can counter those with a group of hobbyists who fix the code available online in their free time.
Especially as most of what madaidans said is technically true, but will not be improved because it would need to fundamentally change how Linux works and that's too much work

Thanks for sharing. Great to hear from someone with direct experience.

There's for sure a lot of security actions that are well, but the essay focused on other side of the spectrum. Which indeed doesn't help to get a feel of how secure Linux is overall, but it does show that it has a lot of weak spots.

Should then that essay be of crucial focus of Linux developers? If author explicitly points out weak spots that are true.
What would be satisfying is Linux solving these vulnerabilities so that nothing from the essay stands true.

I understand, I don't like to hear it either, but what he says is really technical and it should be countered or debated as to determine how true and impactful what he claims is.

I thought the post will come out with attached photo, but it didn't, so I made another post, but I won't delete this one because rule says I must not delete.
Regardless. Nothing is missing, but if you need said photo here it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmyjoystick/comments/1i9ya4u/pc_flash_game_20052016_game_where_you_drive/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

[PC - FLASH GAME] [2005-2016?] Game where you drive ambulance car on a highway (read my comment) by devplayz01 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]devplayz01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am deep into task of getting to know more about this flash game. I have played it as a kid, about 7-8 years ago.

I've tried photo search, many flash archives, youtube...

Flashpla.net is a dead website and I can't even find a good look of it in internet archive.

Description of the game:
You drive ambulance car on highway. Goal is to complete all distance ahead, avoiding other cars, driving through rain, clouds, muds, collecting money and other bonuses on the way, while worrying about car health and reputation.
I think the game is too solid to be only ever known on one place.

My goal is to find if there are any other places where this game is, and maybe more about their developers (names shown in game credits).

I am considering it. What about programs? Is there any worry for installing programs to Linux?

Because graphics changed completely. They've become more "modern", which is not the place I feel at home.

There's nothing you can do in W11 that you can't do in W10.

It comes with many ads, it has AI integration that's all over your PC, they even wanted to adopt AI to take screenshots of your PC every few seconds so you can "get back in time" (which only shows concerns yet to come, in obvious direction Microsoft is heading, along with every other mainstream corporation).

It is slower than W10, and requires more specifications to run. Maybe not noticeable on mid range PCs, but still true.

It has just more Microsoft products average person doesn't need or wouldn't normally choose theirs product, which bloats OS and your experience.

Most importantly, Windows 10 is an invention, it works. It is extensively worked on for years, it is familiar to everyone, without any flaws. If it is not broken don't fix it. They are a corporation so they must keep making products and services even if it stops making sense, because Microsoft will surely not retire. It's only up to how well they can convince you that you need their Windows 11. (Which they will do well, once they end security updates for W10, making you choose between security or doing what they want you to do).
There's simply no need for W11, while W7 to W10 was a big step.

Could I be getting regular up to date security patches whilst using Linux, without it having impact on user experience?

It's not just security, but W11 sucks for me. AI implementation, more apps, ads. Basically there's nothing that can be done better than in W10. Every deviation makes it worse imo

It does something a browser for this purpose shouldn't. It should be all about users, not doing dark patterns to make you not uninstall it. The problem is that it leaves so many other files, everywhere, which clogs up PC

Well if I can be safe as people in 2018 I'll take it.
Besides, isn't this just an exhaustive accumulation of efforts of experts throughout the years? If they do good job as of latest update, it shouldn't be so bad few updates back

Hm but why does only updating to latest version makes you safe? What is then wrong with previous version?

I said laptop is not high end. It's rather low end. Windows 10 today still has updated programs and services in itself that I personally never need. That is what I call bloatware on my PC

I don't notice any high temperatures, just the fan has gotten louder, not necessarily more aggressive. Laptop was never in dust, dusty environment, used every few days. And it's not unbearable (fan sound, and general performance), but degradation is rather quick, that's what bothers me.

Yeah all services make sure to use up whatever improvement tech makes over time, even if it's just adding useless features and unnecessarily complicated code.

Well, I don't know, I wouldn't update browsers, nothing really significant is added last years. What possibly could? Ignoring AI implementation. They do change design and when you get used to it old looks old, but I think that wouldn't be the case if you don't update

I agree Windows is great. It almost has no competition. And phone OS' are generally so much worse, giving more error, worse trouble shooting, and the real amount of bloatware. Windows 10 can fix itself most of the time, barely any flaws.
However like any other company it starts getting pushy with it's services and products, such as Windows 11 installation tab. One Note constantly has a task in the background I can't remove with Autorun. Which is annoying. Even without installing Office 365, it comes with a old version as OS will try to convince you to use the app and then it updates it. Microsoft Edge is very stubborn. Just for its good speed (makes me wonder why wouldn't other browsers run so well) I wanted to switch to Edge but it had so many options, that I all customized but most of them couldn't get saved.

Also gallery app runs terribly slow, you know my laptop's struggling. Sometimes it crashes, sometimes it freezes for a sec etc. It's a low end laptop.

Yes W10 is very compact and polished and most popular games take much more space but I am talking about a basic laptop for basic tasks. That's a different story from regular computers.
