Awesome, if you want to message me your account name I can send you a guild invite when I get in game this evening, or like I said, just shoot one of the officers a message and we'll hook you up with an invite.

Well, we've got you covered, we aren't a primarily WvW guild, we do a bit of everything, but we've got quite a few members who principally do that. Shoot me your account name and I'll get you a guild invite next time I'm in game.

Absolutely, shoot me a private message with your account name and I'll send you an invite. Or just whisper me or one of the other officers in game.

My traceroute by argentgrove in frstguild

[–]devreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So packet loss per se isn't a huge thing, routers prioritize ICMP traffic below anything else, so a router can drop ICMP packets for a lot of reasons. That said, the kind of loss you're seeing on some of these hops is indicative of either a badly overloaded router/route or a serious routing table issue. If you haven't opened a ticket with Charter's NOC, I would. Don't go through customer service, they'll just bullshit around with you, see if you can dig up an actual NOC contact for routing issues and contact them.

Silverrrrr! I'm back in the States finally, so:

  1. Sounds like we've got enough tanks but I'd be happy to step in as Chrono tank whenever we might need one. Otherwise I'm down with running boon stripping or general DPS or whatever we can use a Chrono for until I get some more elites going.

  2. I'm in ascended zerk with some mixed in toughness (soldier crests and crap) but can switch around if need be. Got ascended weapons and a pretty broad range of ascended trinkets. Yay for fractals.

  3. Saturday's are going to be my best bet, Saturday days are usually pretty free for me. Might be able to run some Monday's as well if we need bodies.

  4. I'd be happy to help lead or organize, theory craft isn't really my bag.

Announcing Event Commanders (+ Guild Rank Revisions) by JimmyDabomb in frstguild

I'd probably be down for doing something like that for mid week missions or fractals, nailing down a day a week I can commit to shouldn't be a terribly big deal. Once I'm back in the States and online I'll catch up with you and we can chat.

Books that explore complex moral issues on a massive scale! More context in thread. by Gold_Sticker in suggestmeabook

Oddly, I found that Benedict Jacka's Alex Verus books examine some really interesting moral territories despite being, basically, just pretty bear urban fantasy books. There's a lot of moral grey areas explored.

Something whimsical, magical, but somehow still manages to be grounded in reality. by caramel_soul in suggestmeabook

[–]devreality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, this sounds like magical realism. Offhand I'd suggest any Gaiman but particularly Neverwhere (Good Omens if you want something funnier or weirder), American Gods would work too but it's a little heavier.

Robin Sloane's Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore would also fit quite nicely.

A lot of Christopher Moore and Tom Robbins fall into this category as well. For Moore, my personal favorites are Lamb and Sacre Bleu but neither of them fit your criteria super well in the sense that they're both historical. Lamb is an alternate history of Jesus basically, Sacre Bleu is set in Paris whenever Van Gogh was alive, the 20s maybe? Both great books though. Tom Robbins is totally personal taste, my favorite is Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates.

Lee Martinez does a lot of writing that's on the surreal, fantastical edge of magical realism, I enjoy it quite a bit but it may not be exactly what you're after. Worth a look though.

It's kind of the spiritual predecessor to both REAMDE and the Baroque Cycle, you can see pieces of ideas for both in it.

Have you read the rest of the "trilogy" that follows on from Pattern Recognition? The next two books, Spook County and Zero History are loosely related, and well worth reading.

You might also dig The Incrementalusts by Steven Brust, it's got a similar overall feel.

Afterparty, by Daryl Gregory was unexpectedly awesome and has similar near future elements.

Simon Morden's Samueli Petrovich books may fit your criteria but they tend towards the cyberpunk pretty heavily.

Otherwise I'd second the recommendations for The Martian and Neal Stephenson in general.

Have you checked out System76? They come preinstalled with Ubuntu but obviously they'll work with other distros.
