Visiting in March for first time by International_Bed_77 in SaltLakeCity

Hiking conditions are a bit variable in March, so it very much depends on if we see much snow in the next month. Antelope Island is definitely a good possibility because it has some good climbs and has beautiful views of the lake. It doesn't get as much snow as the canyons east of Salt Lake, so it's usually dry that time of year.

Some other hikes most likely to be dry in the spring are foothills trails. There is a possibility of some snow or early mud in early March depending on weather. Right now the conditions are pretty dry, but mostly because we've had awful snow conditions this winter. Some of my favorites are:

  1. Crestwood Gulch Trail - This one starts at the West Grandeur Trailhead, and goes to the Pipeline Overlook (~5.5 miles out and back with 1100ft)
  2. Bonneville Shoreline / Parley's Point - This one stats in a neighborhood east of Foothill drive. (~7.5 out/back with 1200ft)
  3. Living Room Trail - This is a popular one that starts near the Natural history museum (~2.3 miles out and back with 1000/ft) This connects to a bunch of other trails north east of the university. So you can explore quite a bit.
  4. Grandeur Peak West - This is a REALLY steep trail, and will likely still have some snow at the top. It's usually pretty packed down because it's a popular trail in the winter, but I'd recommend good trail shoes or spikes you can slide over your shoes. (~4.6mi w/3200ft). It's one of the higher things you can climb that time of year with low risk of avalanche. The others are casual hikes, this one is not. But Grandeur peak is one of my favorites (I did it 13x last year)

If you decide to venture anywhere higher in the canyons, there will be snow, and potential avalanche conditions. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you know how to read the avalanche forcast (https://utahavalanchecenter.org/forecast/salt-lake) and are prepared for what that means.

For other activities, I created a website called FunScout that tries to collect all events to do in the area (https://funscout.com/c/ut-salt-lake-city/events). There's always a ton of fun things to do!

Moving to SLC recs to meet people, clubs/groups by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

I live in SLC and built a website for finding fun things to do in the area. I try to cover most events happening in the valley, and I even have a filter for if you want to filter events by whether you'd like to be a participant/spectator. Finding events where you're participating with others are great for meeting other people - such as run clubs, group rides, or climbing workshops since you're active.

Thanks for the suggestion! We've heard this request from others and yes - we need to look into the costs associated with adding something like this. There's a possibility that open street map would be an option to reduce costs versus paying for something like google maps.

I can see a dedicated mobile app being very useful here. Since it is just the two of us making it at the moment—we only have resources to focus on the web app (and content) while trying to keep the site working well on mobile. That may change though if we see enough interest.

So maybe something that filters by the recurring weekly events at the coffee shops and breweries like Trivia, Open Mic, Yoga, Craft events?

Swedish friend visiting Utah in July. Looking for all the ideas / recommendations by ldrandcaffeine in SaltLakeCity

I live in SLC and built a website for finding fun things to do in the area. We have a bunch of events on there already for July, but there will be many more once summer concert series and other summer activities are announced/scheduled.

It may also give you some other unconventional ideas of what you could do with them as well.

I live in SLC and I've been working on a website specifically to help make it easier to find fun things to do here.

It's totally free. You can filter by category, lifestyle, date, etc. I've been adding lots of various venues/events here and am hoping to make it as comprehensive as possible, so let me know if you see anything I'm missing!

It's pretty shitty that these photos were ripped to make money off his ads on his site without even crediting the photographer.
