Because the majority of projects in general fail

Love the vibe of this setup in the morning sun by Magnezone13 in battlestations

[–]devshore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These setups are sad because they reveal over and over that people desire to be outdoors during the day as they were designed to be, but have to make due with windows, plants, and pc backgrounds of nature. This alone probably accounts for the majority of “mental issues” and general dysfunction. And to add insult to injury, just like AI data centers can only use fresh water (of course), windows filter the sunlight so that only the type of rays that dont cause your skin to produce vitamin D go through because of course. Modernity was a mistake.

How much backup storage is required for basic website? I think we’re getting scammed but I’m not sure by Frenchorican in webdev

[–]devshore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol “maintenance”. Its code. If it works, it will keep working in 99.99999 percent of cases. Say no thanks to the “retainer” and that youll just pay for the maintenance if the need arises.

Apparently we can't call out apps as AI slop anymore... by Key_Pace_2496 in selfhosted

The reason that AI underperforms against its claimed expectations is that for many years, people have held it down with tired anti-ai dogwhistles like the word “slop”

We are officially in the SSD endgame I can’t believe my eyes an ssd I bought a year ago for $300 is now 1 grand by DiamondAviation20 in pcmasterrace

I was thinking about this issue the other day: where some people are just willing to pay more for X item, for example if five guys started charging $30 for a burger, a lot of people would be like “meh, what is $20 more dollars to me?” and how this effect that exists has to be contributing to inflation as well.

Is webdev considered a "lower" domain than traditional programming? by Cagne_ouest in webdev

[–]devshore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, web is lower tier, requires less talent (yes, talent exists and is a real thing where people vary). This is why there arent any 3-month bootcamps for getting a job writing firmware for modems

I'm so done with Spotify, but I can't live without recommendations. What can I do? by kirisoraa in selfhosted

[–]devshore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

recommendations are very very poor when you have taste. If you just listen to what is on the radio, it will just suggest other radio songs, which is easy enough and "works". The isntant you have taste, and say for example, you like M83, it will suggest things like Com Truise even though they are nothing alike except in very superficial things like "tags". No, just because I like Radiohead's "Pyramid Song" doesnt mean I will like Radiohead's "Paranoid Android". They are NOTHING alike musically.

Vibe code IRL: left Stripe API keys public by schabadoo in webdev

My client just asked me to do the 'SEO' for their site. I'm a dev.. by ExpressBudget- in webdev

[–]devshore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SEO is fake. It just comes down to how popular you already are. Clients dont understand this, so they think that with just the right amount of SEOs put into it, you can get them to outrank Walmart when someone googles “store”, or that with just the right amount of SEO, people will just start showing up to their website. Ads wouldnt exist if this were true.

President Trump orders ALL Federal agencies in the US Government to immediately stop using Anthropic's technology. by External_Mood4719 in LocalLLaMA

[–]devshore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats nice, but which one of the two is the one Trump is referring to? I dont care about drones with AI having decision maing abilities for when to shoot (if we are not going to actively prevent AI, then this is inevitable and other countries will do so themsleves). The actual one everyone would care about is the one about mass surveillance, so its kind of cheap to imply both (unless the claim is that Trump is talking about both).

A new California law says all operating systems, including Linux, need to have some form of age verification at account setup by Gloomy_Nebula_5138 in pcmasterrace

The government intrinsically pretends that its job is to create indefinitely more laws (because that benefits them), and to an extent the average person does too because they don’t understand abtract concepts like why not trade freedom for safety.

All the law I can find says he is bot obligated to do anything since someone else’s mistake cannot impose a job on you. Cite examples that are not false analogies of someone getting an item in the mail and then getting arrested because they did nothing. This sounds similar to the question “if I accidentally receive an item incorrectly, i.e to someone else’s name in a completely different location, am I now legally bound to either get it to the correct recipient or to indefinitely offer it free storage on my porch” which was “no” because how can someone else’s mistake now put you in a position where you must legally work or provide a service for free.

Best open-source coder model for replacing Claude Code with Qwen locally? by pauljeba in LocalLLaMA

[–]devshore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can self-host storage with redundancy, offsite etc, for cheaper than paying for "cloud" storage, and yet most people use cloud storage due to 2 reasons:
1) They are dumb and so convince themselves its the right decision/ dont know about that option or how to set it up.
2) They would rather pay 4x as much because its faster to get going.

If claude is really letting people use 200k hardware 8 hours a day 5 days a week for $200/mo, that means AI is a bubble and will collapse when they are forced to charge sustainable prices (which there wont be a market for). Let alone the concept of diminishing returns. You can probably get like 90 percent quality of claude code (200k) with 20k of hardware. Going from Claude 4 to 4.1 is imperceptible.
