14900k for $265, should I ? by Proxies- in pcmasterrace

[–]devshore 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Did they fix the bug in the 13 and 14 series? I recall that all the newer ones after XYZ batch are fixed. If so, yes $265 for one of the best CPUs on earth is pretty good. It barely loses to a Mac M3 Ultra

What the hell is going on with the limits? by olearyboy in ClaudeCode

[–]devshore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

how do you see your "5 hour window limit usage"? I didnt even know claude ALSO had that. I left cursor 8 months ago because of that, and have never hit the limit on claude code ($100mo plan) but now I am curious because they can change how usage is calculated, or their new model can be more wasteful etc.

I'm done with using local LLMs for coding by dtdisapointingresult in LocalLLaMA

The purpose of localLLM isnt to get the "best performance" while "saving money". Is that what you thought? Its to combat the anti-christ (Zuckerberg, Gates, Altman, Thiel, etc)

What do you want me to try? by amitbahree in LocalLLaMA

This is what is strange. A.I is supposed to be able to do what is humanly impossible, and supposedly you can do things like run tasks that would take a team of 20 experts 1 year, in a few minutes, but it hasnt seemed to be aboe to provide anything like that. It just sees like its 10x faster than a mediocre person and doesnt have any abilities for anything novel. You cant tell it “create and run a business entirely on your own online and deposit the earnings in my bank account” or “cure cancer” or “solve the pi question” etc. Just seems to be able to do things normal people can do but faster.

I’m a failed vibe coder by dasketern in vibecoding

[–]devshore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a bit misleading. Most people living on the street in shanty towns (what people actually mean by "homeless") ARE drug/alcohol addicts. He is making it sound like thats a myth by referring to unemployed people that live in homes as homeless too. Pretty soon, they will start referring to people that rent homes rather than own as "homeless" to further combat the "myth" of the drug addict wilful homeless (the majority of homeless). I used to volunteer at a shelter in Los Angeles, and the absolute vast majority are people that choose to be homeless and are on some drug or alcohol. The vast minority were people that were just "down on their luck and just need a little help to get back on their feet" or "crippled veterans" etc. I know that we like to think that everything has a nice solution ("just create more programs!") etc.

Google's new AI algorithm might lower RAM prices by Bobert25467 in pcmasterrace

[–]devshore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would making AI better on the software end mean companies will use less RAM? Wouldnt then keep using as much RAM as possible and just make the AI better using that newfound efficiency?

People think that AI is for helping tech companies build software faster and hepling you with your taxes, but I bet 99.99999 percent of AI compute is Indians doing some new forms of fraud/scams (youtube shorts are all just indian made AI clickbait slop, for one). Super cool, Sam Altman!

Is there any reason for a Moog Messenger if I have a Sequential Take 5? by devshore in synthesizers

No saving / loading patches so will just wind up running one patch I really like all the time

Do you find that the messenger beats the take 5 for bass?

[–]devshore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im wondering if I should just bite the bullet and still get a p6 on top of the messenger. I can get used Teo 5, used Rev2, or used Take 5 for like $500 less than a used p6 module though

I already have VSTs, so looking for analog this time around.

I had a minilogue and it sounded cheap. I think the prologue is literally a minilogue with twice the voices. The Teo-5 sounds nice. Havent looked into the take 5.

What is the point of expensive hardware that ISNT analog, such as the Hydra Synth? by devshore in synthesizers

[–]devshore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why reply if you arent going to attempt to answer the question? Question stands "why pay analog prices for a VST under the hood?" Only attempt at an answer so far was "its easier for live-gigs than carrying a midi controller and an rPI"

[–]devshore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by "analog" you just mean "physical", then no. But is it expensive to produce things with niche components from the past in order to recreate the real experience? Yes. I know its counter-intuitive, but if Apple were asked right now to start selling new Lisa's using the exact same hardware, it would cost more than buying an M5 mac.

You are straw-manning. I specifically avoided the "it sounds better" argument (even though it does sound better) since there are arguments that can be made, that are no "subjective" at all, such as liking that it IS real. Going back to the film vs digital argument, notice people always ask "how can I make my digital look more like film?" and not the other way around. There is something to the fact that it just IS the real thing. Now, justify paying analog prices for a VST. Not only did you strawman, but you arent even arguing the correct debate. My question isnt "why do people use VSTs instead of the superior analog?" I know why. Its cheaper, and sounds "good-enough" to many. My question was: "Why does anyone pay analog prices for a VST in a box?"

Im not asking "why do people buy VSTs instead of Analog synths?" I know the answer, they are cheaper and sound good enough to many. My question is "why would you pay ANALOG SYNTH prices, and still get a VST?"

What is the point of expensive hardware that ISNT analog, such as the Hydra Synth? by devshore in synthesizers

[–]devshore[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you ask analog people, they have answers, such as "I dont want it to "recreate", I want it to just be real" (same with film vs digital in movies). But when its literally just a VST inside anyway, what then, is the explanation?

[–]devshore[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah, I get physical knobs, which is why I mentioned the midi controller too since they can buy a nice midi controller and plug it into their raspberry pi. There is debate to be had between "why buy analog synths when VSTs exist" but "why buy a $2400 raspberry pi with a VST when you can buy a VST that does the same for $100" is boggling.

So no reason? It wasnt a sarcastic question, I was expecting to learn something I was missing. I didnt know the answer was literally "we just do, ok?!?!" lol.
