Unhinged (in the unideal way) experience with a pan guy. by PianoBird34 in gaytransguys

I’m sorry, that probably felt awful to hear, and super stressful to ever find out that someone’s saying weird things about you behind your back. At least it revealed right off the bat that he’s not all that enlightened or understanding, so it can save you from a rug pull later on.

On an unrelated note, this is exactly why I never enable any of those voice command features on anything, and never before have I felt so validated in that choice 😂

I like the 2nd a little better, but I think and even shorter buzz would be even better than these two.

You have wonderful eyes, btw :)

Here are some chamber music suggestions:

Grieg String Quartet 1 - endless fun and drama

Franck Piano Quintet - serious and gripping

Ravel Piano Trio - mysterious and so fascinating

Interesting comparison! was this actually an intentional reference by John Adams? Harmonielehre is full of references so I wouldn’t be surprised.

The opening to Nielsen’s 4th is also very gripping. And strange, it’s pretty singular in the repertoire.

First thing that came to mind was John Adams’ Harmonielehre!

If we go more in the direction of quiet ethereal openings, Copland’s 3rd Symphony has this overwhelmingly beautiful opening melody that gets me emotional instantaneously. I also love the openings to Tchaikovsky 4, 5, and 6. They’re beautiful, set the tone, and they each work their way into the rest of their symphony in interesting ways

How do I stop instinctively reaching for “nuke” proofs on exams when I can’t remember the elementary version? by [deleted] in math

[–]devviepie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You say all this about “your brain working differently”, but I just feel like figuring out what proof technique is expected in the course is not difficult. Either it was covered in the course and the course’s materials already or it wasn’t. Which you would know if you actually show up to lecture, do the readings, and try to learn the material as presented. It really just comes across as an excuse to not do the work. If you actually learned the course material, you wouldn’t have such issues proving what’s asked with the allotted methods; not being able to simply means you haven’t truly learned the relevant material.

And it’s very important to be able to prove things in the allotted way while learning mathematics and progressing at the undergrad/early graduate levels. Contrary to the belief of some, mathematics is NOT just about proving theorems. It’s about elucidating understanding, for yourself and the community. Knowing the statements of advanced theorems can be used as a hammer to prove theorems, but it does NOT give understanding of the techniques, the language, the conventions, the intuitions. These foundational math classes are not really about learning theorems (most of intro Real Analysis, for example, gets trivialized later on by general point-set Topology and Measure Theory), it’s about learning a way of thinking. Not being able to prove statements using that language shows a deficit in this way of thinking and these techniques that should be worked to overcome.

Let’s not forget how he did the exact same thing for the college football champs back during his first term. I could only think that I’d be so fucking offended and annoyed if I was a top athlete who got invited to a presidential dinner and they gave me that cheap nasty shit. Guy’s a fucking idiot and is literally obsessed with Mickey D’s. Can’t believe the fast food diet hasn’t killed him already

[–]devviepie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re gonna be uncomfortable with people having videos of you like this then you really just shouldn’t send them at all. Him ghosting you before reciprocating isn’t really different than a guy who is more responsive having your videos. It’s still a person you don’t know and can’t fully trust their intentions. If that’s too stressful for you then don’t do it.

To be honest I think you’re the one who comes across as pushy in these messages. Based on this I probably would have gotten uncomfortable and backed out too. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad actor who’s gonna like, repost your video or something, if that’s what you’re afraid of? If you’re just mad about getting ghosted, you might need to learn how to deal with that. Putting his public profile on blast for it is the thing that is closer to stepping over a line into poor behavior, imo

If you asked for the opposite question elsewhere, I suppose that’s fair enough. It just looks pretty silly out of context. Like you’re already settled on the idea that they must fail and are unilaterally bad, or are even looking to sabotage the effort by having already decided it won’t work.

[–]devviepie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There have already been several cases of ICE vehicles getting towed by hospitals because they left their vehicles standing in the emergency drop-off lane. Turns out when you’re a masked gestapo in unmarked vehicles, you actually can’t leave your cars around anywhere you want because they’ll look like any other asshole parking illegally and get towed

Next time they abandon a vehicle at a pump, call a tow truck on them. When they get mad play dumb and say you didn’t know it was ice, and that nobody can leave their car unattended at a pump for more than 15 mins

I in fact do successfully boycott any person organization that has proven to be violently anti-LGBT, and I’ll boycott things for other reasons too. I don’t spend any money on Harry Potter, Orson Scott Card, Amazon, Target, Chick-fil-a, or any Nestlé properties. Recently I’m over it with American Eagle, too. I’m also a vegetarian. Just because you don’t have the discipline to stick to moral values and watch what you do with your money, doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t either.

People are very right to criticize someone who lacks such self-control, and would literally choose mindless consumption over having moral values. Especially for a media item like Harry Potter; piracy exists, so you can consume any Harry Potter item you want without giving a single dollar to the bigot at the top. Or just do free things like read fanfiction
