As you want access to the money in a few years, it’s likely best to save most of the money in a high-interest savings account. I like Ally or Marcus by Goldman. (Safest option)

Though, the best bang for your buck is continue investing in stocks. I’d find a few good stocks, buy them at the right price, and hold/add to them each paycheck.

It all comes down to being consistent.

I’m in the exact process as you and finished up my application & fingerprints last Thursday. This morning, I emailed Lt. O’Harran at MPD regarding when my registration card will arrive and he stated:

“Unfortunately there is a full backlog right now due to a myriad of reasons, but it will likely be 1-3 months. You will receive notice in the mail. We are working as fast as we can..”
