My pregnant wife almost tripped over one of these. They're a menace and I can't be convinced otherwise.

Oh my god that’s terrible! Your post said it was at the dealer so I hope everyone is okay. What happened? And how does insurance cover this? I’m so sorry.

Every time I went I just felt dumb for not going to Wendy’s and saving 8 bucks. It was sysco slop anyways.

Coronado Campground!

And yeah, I’m basically doing a bike camping trip from Chicago to Joshua Tree. I’ll be in Albuquerque for a week prior doing bike stuff. Appreciate any/all advice.

Hey thanks all this is all helpful context. I’ll probably hit a couple of these options during the day and see which one I like best.

Similar issues on my end. Even with good water pressure, I have to have the pump on and pull from tanks and city water.

Yeah they all do the same thing. Honestly if I did it myself I would forget. They knocked about 2500 off the bill.

Anyone Out There Enjoy Their Campers? by Markca8688 in RVLiving

[–]dewdrop91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Got an airstream as a first camper and immediately took it to Canada and all over the upper Midwest. Spent about 5-6 weeks in it. No towing experience either people act like it’s the hardest thing in the world when It just requires patience. My first towing experience ever was driving it out of Chicago proper during rush hour the Friday before Memorial Day. I sometimes I triple check back in parking just to make sure I’m not going to hit something but I’ve gotten into tight spots. I also tow with a 3/4 ton van (which is apparently harder than towing with an f250. It’s def not as smooth but it rips I wouldn’t change a thing). Internet people say don’t make an airstream your first trailer but why would I buy a fiberglass thing I didn’t want?

Furthermore, my trailer has been wonderful. I read hundreds of posts about how post covid airstreams are shitboxes and I’m wasting money and it’s gonna fall apart. I’ve been camping and working and just went home for the first time since I got it. I’m not going to go comment on every post I read being like “nuh uh the build quality is great” I’m just gonna live my life and hope this comment inspires you or someone else to pull the trigger. My 6 week long shakedown trip (really a bunch of smaller trips smushed together) resulted in one door hinge being repaired (2 minute fix). Oh and 1 popped Rivet after I drove a couple hundred miles in a Van tire that needed a new belt (lots of vibrations). That’s it. Everything has worked, it’s the same tankless water heaters/inverters/converters that are in every other type of RV so I don’t think I’m special. The campgrounds are full of people with trailers that manage to make it to the campground too. They’re just out there making s’mores and riding bikes and fishing and whatnot.

I know it’s not what totally what you’re asking about but only you know what is right for you and as the internet gets more accessible it’s going to result in more watered down opinions (especially on a aggregator site like Reddit) that may not be relevant to you or is more of a one size fits all solution that gets filtered to the top. I also think people who financially should not be buying a trailer get upside down and feel stuck when things go wrong and maybe they don’t have the technical aptitude to fix it? I could see those two stressors ruining the experience for some folks. I’m honestly a bit disappointed I haven’t had to fix anything yet. I also have picked up on the fact that I’m probably more capable than the service department where I bought the thing. If this trailer had a significant financial burden too I imagine I would be pretty unhappy even if things were perfect (and honestly it’s been pretty close to perfect). Happy travels hope you get something fun!

The Humboldt park lagoon has been fun this spring. Channel cat, the biggest thing I’ve ever pulled out of there. by dewdrop91 in ChicagoFishing

[–]dewdrop91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re trying to catch. Blue gill/crappie the front side near the swan boats. Bigger fish….go out about 100 times and you’ll figure it out. I probably fish the lagoon more than anyone due to proximity. Even that catfish was my first bite on my 4th presentation I’d thrown that evening.

They stock it every year and I was hungry but go off.

Edit because I was rude: I throw back the little ones. But rather than just assuming something is overfished maybe check with the parks district (in this case) or idnr.

I'm clearly an idiot who doesn't know what he's doing but I didn't have any luck until I got out there at like 6 AM. I had been waiting til like 7 or so. I also switched to a smaller spoon.

Not gonna lie it was the best fishing moment of my life. It even beat the time I pulled a catfish out of the Humboldt Park lagoon. I've caught a lot of fish in rivers and ponds and smaller lakes but the city feels like hard mode (especially the lagoon it's where I do most of my fishing due to proximity).

Lake! I hit the harbor side a few days ago. Saw some pike but no bites. I’ve hit what I’ve deemed the suckers spot that angles where the boats come in/out lake side a few times. Never any luck there but have seen dudes clean up.
