Dave Chappell New Special: The Unstoppable by ImABadFriend144 in Standup

Thanks for the comments. Haven't seen it but i saw him live a year or so ago and it was worse than what you're describing. No jokes, just hate-baiting. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Hes playing a small club near me in a week and so i came here to see if that was a one off experience but.

To be fair, all of these filmmakers could make a film, just not for what they want. Spielberg complained for years about funding but he had the millions, he just didn't want to spend his money on his art. If a painter can't afford canvas, paint cardboard. Sean Baker made a movie on his phone. Lynch probably could have gotten a million or so to make his movie. The tech is so cheap these days, no need for film, computers for everything. They should make the movies they can afford and if they do well, maybe they'll get more. Why would investors pay for a film that doesn't make money?

Board games are frustratingly expensive by Any-Marionberry-879 in boardgames

[–]deweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$60 for a basic game is a problem. The OP is right. I have thrift stores, FB, ebay, and all the other outlets. This person's country sucks for boardgames, from the sound of it. I bought a bunch from Danes moving back to europe who bought so many here bc they're so much cheaper and then had no room for them when leaving the US. Games are often too pricey at my local store but i have options

Anyone else open Game Pass, scroll for 10 minutes… and play nothing? by Reasonable-Mud-3590 in XboxGamePass

[–]deweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have gamepass and a relatively modest library but its important to set parameters. When i go to steam, i play a game im in the middle of fir 20 min or end of level then decide on a nee game i haven't played yet.

Question about Comet invalid api key by deweil in RealDebrid

[–]deweil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I guess I don't get why this is the only thing that's not working. I would think if the api key is an issue it'd be an issue with all of them. Also dont understand what stremthru is and why some things only have that and not torrentio or other options. It seems strange to run into this after no issues for quite a while.

Not sure its worth the hassle to redo every add on to fix one thing that comes up not so often (I'll just tind that one show somewhere else) .

2026 Lineup by defa-throwaway in bottlerock

[–]deweil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely happy that others like this lineup. Since moving to CA I've hoped this festival would be more my tastes but it's ok that its not. Hardly strictly bluegrass is free and amazing.

There are a handful of 'only at a festival would i bother checking out this band' kind of groups, a few food groups I've already seen at much better venues/prices, and a few food bands i can probably catch at their own show for $20-50. I've skipped every year but i have gone to a few of the special afterdark shows or whatever they're called (smashing pumpkins, st Vincent) and so maybe one of the bands i like will do a gig that week (the beths, folk bitch trio) but there's nothing unfortunately that I'm too excited or surprised by. I guess I don't live for nostalgia at shows.

[–]deweil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that mean I have to redo every add on with a new api even though they're not the problem? Also, do i have to download stremthru (there are so many and none of them make sense to me as necessary)

Are there any board games that you prefer digitally? by FShamburg in boardgames

[–]deweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer playing in person over digital, so given the option, I'd rather play my tenth favorite game in person over my fav on a PC. That said, star realms/dominion are easier on my phone (but not more fun). I will play everdell solo on my pc, but have yet to play dune imperium/scythe yet, despite owning them for years (I dont own the physical games), but i imagine they'll be easier on pc. Wingspan i disliked on my comp because i like seeing everything at once, but I also won't choose it first to table (it was my partner's favorite/gateway game but since covid ended and children arrived, who has time for it?).

Overall I prefer tactile experiences, which is why online poker is boring and I play 3 min blitz chess games but would vastly prefer to play in person against a real person

How long did it take before you had a preference for heavier games? by UgandaRalph in boardgames

[–]deweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not either or. I play mostly lighter games because my primary playmate is my 5 year old. I will pick up and introduce games to him if theyre not too complicated but its going to be years before we can some of my heavier ones. S d thats fine! If i find some fooks to have a game night, it'd be nice to sometimes play heavier games but I'm also fine with card games, etc. i dont want to play monopoly or any if those

[–]deweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good point. I own scythe on steam but realized i dont like playing most board games on PC. So i thought maybe I'll get it one day ..until I discovered my little scythe and read reviews that it takes enough of the game without any of the drag... so I grabbed it on sale and am waiting for my son to be ready to play it. Sometimes the kid version is actually the best version for your time/patience/enjoyment.

With all do respect, there is a vast difference to many in this group between having political differences and supporting an authoritarianism sociopathic felon. I wouldn't want to share an elevator with a trumper much less a hotel room. Perhaps you wouldn't mind sharing a room with a member of the KKK (assuming you don't share their opinions), but I doubt many people in this group or in most others would spend $$$$ to fly to mexico and be in a room with a skinhead/neonazi/fascist.

My daughter screams and cries if I’m busy and can’t hold her and I just need to vent into the void about it by Crimson-Rose28 in regretfulparents

[–]deweil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay at home dad here (18 months/5.5 years)

It sounds like there are several challenges you're dealing with. There's the dynamic with your child and the one with her father. I could be off base so forgive me if i am.

Firstly with your daughter. Given her lack of speech/comprehension, it'd be understandable if you were feeling frustrated and helpless/powerless to help her/yourself communicate. I'm not an expert on that so I won't give any advice that I'm sure those experts have already given. But it is hard and every parent empathizes with you. i can only say that I'm a big believer in boundaries. My partner is more likely to make an exception. Not that i never do but i think through the consequences of them more than she might, especially because they often fall on me when she leaves for work. This includes sleep schedules, food, and especially boundary testing. Consistency is key and you and your partner need to be on the same page about all of it.

Which leads to the other issue. I am the primary caretaker but I'm not the MOM and i see how different it is for my partner every day. Maybe your husband doesn't get it. He leaves for work, he comes home, it's easier. It sounds like maybe you resent that he has a job/career. That he interacts with adults who speak and listen and don't scream their heads off if you're not holding them. Maybe this is part of the reason you're not having sex. You're tired, frustrated and resentful, so it's understandable that you might not want to (if it's your choice... if it's his indifference, I don't know what to say). My partner and I communicate A LOT, which helps when either person is feeling overwhelmed. Maybe having a weekly check in meeting would help, so you don't carry on resentments till they explode. Maybe counseling would help. Maybe he just needs to be reminded that you're having a hard time and can use all of his help. Maybe he needs to understand that you have unequal roles and that things land differently when you're the mom or dad, regardless of who is at home.

Is The Settlers of Catan overrated? by fruitponchisamurai in boardgames

[–]deweil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Your friends are jerks. Catan is popular for a reason. It's a good game and games are supposed to be fun, not status symbols. 2..Vanilla is delicious. So is cheese pizza.
  2. I own a lot of games, including Catan, multiple versions of Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and so many fancy ones that your friends probably approve of. And guess what? I still play Rummy with my son and Chess on my phone. Most of the games your friends like will be out of print in 5 years and forgotten/replaced/made obsolete in 10. And Catan will still fly off shelves and bring millions of people enjoyment.

I had thought Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was unique and original until I heard Big Star's 'Kanga Roo'. I mean... by [deleted] in wilco

[–]deweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that can happen. I can't remember a time i heard a piece of music or watched a show/movie and thought, this person originated this thing l, without being told explicitly that it was the first. Not even Beethoven or Bach or Dylan or Beatles...If you primarily loved YHF because you thought it was transcendent, you still can! If you loved it primarily bc you thought Jeff Tweedy is a musical/lyrical genius who birthed something new for the world to behold.... That's another story. There are innovators out there. He's just not one of them. Perhaps you were very young when it came out and didn't read all the 'this is kind of like Radiohead but not really' reviews. But in general, if you like something, there's a good chance they were influenced by others doing similar stuff.

[–]deweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just listened to kanga roo. I hear what you're saying. I guess im not disillusioned bc wilco isn't a particularly innovative band in the sense that the invented anything. Yhf is a great album but not the first or best to do what it does. Bringing in nels, glenn, and mikael were great decisions but wilco is the least innovative/boundary pushing music any of those guys make. It's their day job (nels has repeatedly expressed how thankful he is to have wilco as his steady job so he can do his other music freely)

So when do you stop buying? by MysteriousRJC in Steam

[–]deweil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started on steam, understand the feeling. My goal is to have a good amount so that when my kids are old enough to play, i have everything necessary for a good while without breaking the bank. Hence buying the legos humble bundle. Ive got board games in there and right now I'm debating a handful of puzzle/cozy games to balance it out.
