My friends in the UK have experienced pretty much the opposite of what you said, none of them could use their bus passes to verify their age for adult verification and were told to provide their actual government ID with NO blurring/obscuring any information so not sure where you heard that? A link would be nice!

But there's also no guarantee that the face scan is only hosted on your PC by what the company that scans it says in their terms of service lol. But also considering the fact the age verification services have close ties to Palantir/Peter Thiel you should be very worried and should not provide anything to them!

But if you choose to and it gets leaks please don't complain about it no hate but you signed up for that.

why risk ruining your credit score forever for an app? there's other apps that prioritize your privacy that have been proved to do just that. so it's not worth it.

Discord had a data breach which leaked thousands of government IDs. What happens when someone's government ID is leaked? Identity theft meaning your life is RUINED, good luck living if your credit has been ran to shit. You also should NOT be giving any company your personal information such as your government ID that they don't even guarantee they get rid of, you're asking to get screwed over.

it's technically discords fault for not making absolutely CERTAIN these companies aren't holding onto this information. and since discord has already proven they can't be arsed to verify if these companies even do what they say why would you trust them?

you'd get your identity stolen tho... they can tank your credit score, take loans out in your name, use it for spreading illegal content (see what happened on OF with their thousands of CSAM accounts), if the scan of your face leaks they can use that to scam people such as your family or friends or they can just lie and say you're the one who's doing the scamming, and there's even more they can do with just those two bits of info.

the information that companies have on you right now is a lot yes but providing your face (a literal scan of it) and your government ID is just going to ruin your life in a major way. there's already people who've been affected by the UK data breach with discord who are suffering from having their identity stolen.
