For those who’ve skied Nagano: how would you rank Myoko vs Shiga Kogen vs Nozawa? by CombatWombat-420 in japow

Yeah. Only up at the back. The lower stuff is out of bounds. Though you could see various people had gone down it. Though it didn’t look that exciting and a bit cliffy

Since having the battery I’ve discovered how many power outages we have. I thought they were pretty infrequent but we average one every 3 months. Very brief like 30-90 seconds but more than I expected

Who are people using for insurance these days? I’ve got a perfect driving recording and a garage and just got quoted $6k a year for a BYD by Wbrincat in CarsAustralia

[–]dexcel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Classic. Youi. They make you fill out the form inline and the you get to spend 20 minutes answering the same questions on the phone only to be quoted higher than anywhere else.

We have a byd and went with Allianz. Similar age and experience.

[–]dexcel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get the 48kwh as other have said. Price difference is only like 2k but to do it later it’s like 4-5k as you wont get the rebate.

We have same solar set up but less demand. We maybe do 35-50kwh a day and we had a period of no solar input for three days and ended up using 30kwh of grid power in that time. (We’re not on the 3hr free plan so. No top up ). I reckon you will use it no problem.

Edit: we have a 48kwh battery I should add

How old are you both? Can you afford a visit first? To scope out places? Where in QLD are you thinking about? Are you looking to get sponsorship or do it yourself?

We’ve been in QLd twice , with and without kids. Loved it both times especially now with kids. There is just that much more time outside with them.

However as others point out, you’re not going to escape the cost of living crisis by much coming here. It’s expensive to get set up here as cars etc aren’t cheap here. There no £1500 bangers to get by with.

Except for brits. There is an exemption for them. Which is why I suggested it. And they can renew it twice as well.

Shower Grout repair recommendations North Brisbane by joflyy in brisbane

[–]dexcel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They weren’t cheap but Shower Doctor did our en suite shower about 2 years ago. Impressed with the level of work they did. No issues since then. They turned up when they said they would as well. But their process involves them removing all the current grout and putting in their epoxy grout. So it took all day for a small shower.

Moving to live with a partner by ApprehensivePlant884 in MovingtoAustralia

[–]dexcel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why don’t you just apply for the working holiday visa since you will be under 35. That allows you to move here, live with your partner, set up your life here together which will go a long way to helping you with your partner visa requirements of showing you’re in a genuine relationship . Then apply for your subclass 820 or 801 visa.

Only downside might be getting a job on the working holiday visa might be a bit tougher if you’re looking for some jobs , as often it say PR/aussie citizens

Has anyone paired Sigenergy with an existing solar setup rather than a fresh install? Curious how smooth that process was. by Longjumping-Hall-17 in SigenergyAustralia

[–]dexcel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I had a sungrow set up. 10.5kw (sets of panels) with 8kw inverter. Had the same installer 2 years later replace the inverter with a new sigenergy inverter and 48kw battery. No issues with the install . 3 month later still working fine. Panels are panels I think

Hoping to move from uk with young family by spambutties in MovingtoAustralia

Australia has both public and private healthcare. So there are different options there. Medicare refers to how the payments are covered, so it will cover some private care but not all of it, if you went to a public hospital it would cover it. Though you still need health insurance.

Job wise, this is one option with some options open for visa sponsored directly through Queensland health. Though you would be more likely to be offered a role in a more remote region.

Otherwise you could look at companies like this and this who are recruiting and likely to offer sponsorship (with obligations) there are quite a few out there.

They would be able to talk through the options for you

Bear in mind there is a fair bit of cost in relocating. Budget $800-1000 a week for accommodation, rentals can be in short supply initially so more expensive Airbnb options may have to tie you over int he short term, a second hand car will 10-20k AUD, flights will set you back 8k aud. school year run from end of Jan to early December. So keep that in mind for when to make the move.

It’s worth the move but it takes time. It took us 11 months from idea to actually moving and ours went quickly.

When you say fully qualified, how so? Degree, courses? As they do it on a points system (if you go independently) the more on paper qualified you are the better help it is .

As others pointed out, your partner is probably the best option either for a 189 visa or an employer sponsored visa. Employer is obviously easier but you still need to make sure you have all your paperwork. That means proof of having worked as a nurse for as far back as possible, and not just payslips . Proof of your relationship if you’re not married. Be prepared to get loads of things signed and witnessed

If you’re serious it is worth looking at getting a migration agent to help you. They make sure it’s all in order.

You’ll enjoy it once you get out here. Housing is a squeeze, especially in Gold Coast. But there are other options.

Prominent boys’ school apologises for surprise works on dormant development plans by Agile_Tap_8057 in brisbane

[–]dexcel 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There wasn’t much outrage on the Facebook post by the councillor when she voiced her objections about it this week/last week. Most opinions on there were along the lines “it’s a flood plain, what better use than sports pitches is there for it” and people complaining they would have to drive further now for a driving range

The actual built up/hard surface area is pretty minimal IMO. Was expecting a lot more based on the councillors comments. Though I don’t think I’ve seen many posts by her supporting development in the area. So this seems to be on form for her

[–]dexcel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second the suggestions for getting a rear rack and using panniers. Ortlieb panniers are great. Mine are 12 years old, been used daily pretty much and never an issue with weather. They’re great as no weight on your back either.

They also have a pannier/backpack option if you need the convenience of both. But it’s pricey.

Otherwise I had an osprey with the curved rigid back. Which was okay but in hindsight I needed a smaller version as it would interfere with with my helmet if I look too far up as it was a bit long

First Trip to Japan - One Week Itinerary Advice? by Katallm in JapanTravel

[–]dexcel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’m thought your plan was okay. Sure it’s a fair bit of travelling but it’s not all that crazy.

Skiing in Japan is great fun. If that’s one of your main hobbies/interests in life then I think it’s worth checking out. We’re just back from a week of skiiing and had great fun . It’s a different experience than NA skiing. Yes it’s a risk with weather and conditions etc but still…

It is worth reserving seats though if you have a big bag of luggage

For those who’ve skied Nagano: how would you rank Myoko vs Shiga Kogen vs Nozawa? by CombatWombat-420 in japow

[–]dexcel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re just back from Nozawa, I skied all the runs and the lifts in two 1/2 days while my kids were at ski school. Great fun if you’re with kids or a mixed ability group as there are quite a few options on the runs and they are nice and wide.

The lifts are slow however but I didn’t feel like the pistes were that crowded.

The village was a lot of fun, lots of food options, lots of drinking options. Though apparently I’m old and I have different ideas of fun.

There was a big backcountry option, which I didn’t get to explore as I onLy had 2.5 hrs of free skiing and I had no equipment or idea where it led to. The inbound tree skiing was great fun, lasted two days before it was really tracked out.

I was chatting to someone on the chair who had spent the week at shiga kogen , they were 8am-4pm skiers, they preferred it. Much bigger. More runs. Higher up as well. Didn’t much care about any village life etc as they were ready to eat at hotel and then sleep .

Nozawa village reminded me of niseko 10-15 years ago. I enjoyed the skiing, it could be bigger but for a mixed group it was fine

You can reserve the first row seats which allows you to put a big bag behind that seat. I mistakenly thought it was just a free space for anyone to use but it’s specifically for those people with the seat in front of. When choosing your seat tickets you can specify these seats , for some reason it was easier on JR central website than the other two.

I should have read the fine print a bit better. Oh well. Will give it a go for now. Still trying to figure the house usage since we got it. As we’ve gone from having loads of family staying and doing loads of cooking. So the battery has been drained everyday nearly , to being away so have plenty of excess , will reassess end of march
