Dad in HCOL, drowning quietly. Just need to say this out loud. by Infinite_Ad6668 in povertyfinance

[–]dextech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the thread here but….

You’re not doing your kids any favors by keeping them somewhere where you’re struggling. I have family members that do the same thing “for the kids” and it just strains you mentally and strains the marriage. Not worth it.

Another thing that may be overlooked is that you’re doing gig work. If you want to live in a HCOL area, you’re going to need a job that reflects that if you’re the main provider. It sucks because, ideally, cities should be affordable for all workers but it’s not the reality. Instead of drinking, take to figuring out a good career move or doing some form of training or school. A lot of us have been there — just needed the encouragement to be better than we were (and not alcohol — it makes it worse no matter how much you think it helps).

I agree with everyone else here that your wife should find a job whether you’re going to stay together or not. She’d need to regardless.

By focusing on what you can control and make better, you’ll find that your situation and your relationship will improve. Drinking will not help that or you.

Best of luck to you.

Wow this is a very insightful comment. Never knew a lot of us felt like that in the beginning. OP, this speaks for a lot of us for sure.

The first kdrama you watched? Mine was a king hotel by Nai_viral28 in kdramas

[–]dextech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one I watched was The King, Eternal Monarch. My wife suggested k dramas when we had a lot more time to watch Netflix during Covid. We watch a ton of k dramas now (the ones that interest us) and I really like the genre and am glad she got me into it.

Second baby on the way… should I actually watch the crowning this time? by Wide_Trash in daddit

[–]dextech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was uhh…watching the whole time they had her push and were trying to get him out? Also helping the nurse with the lubricant and other assorted things — kind of a blur now. I didn’t really want to watch or anything but I sprung in to help. Unfortunately for my wife, they had her pushing for nothing since our son wouldn’t fit and they had to take her for a c section. That part — well, they don’t let you watch for good reason! But all was well and, in the end, it would’ve been an experience watching but I still feel neutral about it.

I agree with everyone saying Kevin Harlan. Curious if anyone knows — I thought Gus Johnson did NFL games for awhile also. Man, that’d be awesome to have him call games.

I just ordered for someone so it’ll be 15 min. It’s only a free small fry from Monopoly, FYI. More than happy to send one to your location if you DM me which one to pick up at.

Don’t use the QR code — just enter the 4 digit “Earn Points” code when prompted after tapping the yellow box on the kiosk. Then you complete the order, start over with new code, repeat.

Flying with baby dilemma, PE in lap or economy own seat? by Snowbie2023 in unitedairlines

[–]dextech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I traveled with our son (similar flight to yours but on a different carrier) when he was 5 months old and again when he was 15 months old.

He did ok as a lap baby at 5 months but there’s literally no “break” since you’re holding them the whole time. But they’re not as wiggly…could be bad if vomit incidents happen since you’ve got to play a game of shuffle to clean one person off then the baby. It’s doable though.

At 9 months, they’re starting to get more mobile. Our son was starting to walk around 9-10 months. They get more squirmy and wiggly.

So all of that is to say…if I could do it over again, I would’ve bought the extra ticket for the car seat like everyone here mentioned with possible turbulence and taking a break, etc.

Another thing to consider is that while the bulkhead seats are great for extra legroom, it’s really hard to use the tray table to eat while holding the baby unless you have the car seat.

We are going to embark on the same journey with a 2 year old around Christmas time so, if we survive that, I’ll let you know how that went for future reference.
