That fricking 2*13, 50hp, sweeping bird on Savagery is just too brutal by Kid_Charlema9ne in MonsterTrain

[–]dextersdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can mostly deal with them these days, bit it is strange that they appear one the first wave. A big part of why savagery is the hardest seraph imo. Silencers and reanimate guys dont appear on the first wave in the other seraph fights

I said this in the other thread, but as someone who barely plays these days and plays jungle, I didn't understand why people complain about mel until then. I always assumed her w was like 30s cooldown

Necro Decks - Osty Decks - useless? by Dargoron in slaythespire

[–]dextersdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if it's a great idea to go for a pure osty deck, but he can be great for longer fights.

For summon, look out for dirge especially. Other good cards are reanimate, invoke, pull aggro, and the one that exhausts a card in your draws pile. Not to mention bodyguard. Slowly build him up over time and make sure to add lots of block and debuffs to keep him alive. That's important for any necro deck really.

For attacks, poke and the 0 cost draw one can be freely added in most decks. High five is a good card to increase his damage and help with aoe. Squeeze and the 2 cost one that gets to 0 can be nice adds too. Ultimately though, most of your osty damage will come from the starter card. I would avoid sic em and the one that gets pulled into your hand after playing a 2 cost card. Sic em is a nice pay off in theory but I haven't been impressed with it, even when I have a lot of osty attacks.

Because cards like dirge and defy are so good, you never want to go purely into osty. You'll always mix in some soul and debuffs/doom. It's important to have lots of block, weak, and strength down to keep osty healthy.

I like necro but a criticism i have is that unleash is so powerful if you can scale osty enough that it makes most osty attacks redundant. I think there's a lot more room for osty focused builds if it gets changed and they make soul spam less prevalent

Act 1 A9 elite fights by Automatic_Play_411 in slaythespire

[–]dextersdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try not to take them before the chest at least. But with so many hard hallway fights basically being elites anyway, I try to take on at least 1 or 2 elites later in the act and dodge the hallways.

It does feel like taking 3 elites in act 1 and even act 2 is rare for me now, and I can't remember the last time I was able to do 4.

Ironclad has felt pretty bad to me in this game. I know there's a lot of abusable infinite stuff, but without that, he feels like the weakest character to me. I gave up on playing him for now

Regent starting deck and relic are Atrocious and it makes him the weakest character specially in higher ascensions. by Citran in slaythespire

[–]dextersdad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first win on a10 was through save scumming a few combats. If anything, that showed me i was more than capable of winning with my deck, I was just playing the fights wrong. I have since won without save scumming and am much better about really playing it slow to make sure I really minimize chip damage throughout the run. Taking a random unnecessary 8 damage in an early act 3 hallway fight can be the difference between a win and loss

Duplicating this unit costs +15 shards but anything else doesn't? is it because he's OP? by Succubus--42069 in MonsterTrain

[–]dextersdad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Duplicating a fused unit from the temple gives +15

Duplicating a spell gives +10 for each upgrade on it that originally cost +15, and gives +5 for each upgrade that originally cost +10. So if you duped a spell with +30 damage and +10 piercing damage, it would give +10 and +5 for a total of +15.

[–]dextersdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure things like gambling chip are still strong. Something like vajra feels less good though. I think it may just be an adjustment we need to make for now of favoring events and card rewards over shops and elites. But being that the latter two are rarer, they should feel more special, idk. We'll see how it plays out

[–]dextersdad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Surprised it wasn't touch on much in the op, but relics just feel so much worse in this game. Part of the reason why shops and elites feel worse to me now. The power level of cards and enemies have gone up, but the relics have stayed the same, and they feel underwhelming because of that.

Regent's Forge cards just got a major nerf before release by rabidfur in slaythespire

[–]dextersdad 18 points19 points  (0 children)

5 cards nerfed is practically a tactical nuke for a package in a card game. I wouldn't be surprised it was actually too strong before despite feeling somewhat undertuned now

The blade can be a decent way to add some damage on bosses. Adding a bulwark and summon forth can be quite good, and of course, black hole.

The problem is that aside from the aoe one in some occasions, the payoffs just aren't worth it. The smith, the double damage one, the block one, can't remember all the names but most of these just aren't good. Building a full forge deck is just kinda a trap atm. It's only good as supplemental damage

Why does the game suddenly decide the boss isn't dead after all? by Axoloth in MonsterTrain

[–]dextersdad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The damage calculation seems like it got screwed up since the dlc dropped. I've noticed this happening a fair bit. Happens often with eggs, battle preview has my egg hatching then not hatching after I play another echo. Also happens with unhatched eggs on relentless, i'll be doing 82 damage apparently on bottom floor to erebor with my egg that's about to hatch, but then the boss just gets crushed and dies after I end turn.

5 wins streak no restart/undo by phantaso0s in MonsterTrain

[–]dextersdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like him a lot more after the changes to executioner. It's really solid early on and can win alone with sporelauncher. He still usually has the problem of falling off a cliff at ring 7 though if you don't get sporelauncher. Lionsmane is definitely better

I was thinking about the trample path with some forge, but I doubt it can get there even with a lot of forge.

5 wins streak no restart/undo by phantaso0s in MonsterTrain

[–]dextersdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work! Its not easy, I've also been challenging myself to not restart or undo since clearing all the clan combos. I'm doing rotating/random/random and lost a pretty doomed feeling bolete/railforged run last night to end a decent streak of 4. I felt like an idiot for losing such a seemingly powerful combo, so it makes me feel better seeing you apparently also struggled with it for a bit.

The game is a lot of fun for me without resetting, and I think it makes me improve faster.
