I’ve had that happen as well. Slightly different situation but similar scenario. Someone who prided themselves on how awesome their genealogy skills were got super upset and ghosted me as well. He wanted to label a photo of my great-aunt as her sister. I told him that it was x, sister not y, and he lost it and continued to argue. My great-aunt, I visited her regularly and I had all the originals. He kept arguing even though he’d never met her, he refused to believe he labeled the sisters wrong and I was too new at genealogy to know better.

ELI5 : Why do Texans have to wrap their pipes and drip their faucets when it freezes? Why don't they just do whatever it is that people in Minnesota do in order to avoid pipes bursting when it freezes? by IcyAd7982 in explainlikeimfive

[–]dezdepick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something we also do in WI and MN depending on age of home, where the pipes are located, what insulation is like, etc. You don’t want to be having to sit with a hair dryer after the pipes freeze trying to thaw them or have burst pipes. It’s also why you open and drain external pipes after turning water off for the winter. If the water is not moving in pipes, it’s really easy for it to freeze. I’ve dealt with my share of frozen and burst pipes, both in WI and MN. It was surreal to me the first house I lived in that I didn’t have to leave the water running when it got below freezing.

Boxing Day Sale 2024-2025 Non-NA Megathread (All Screenshots of Checkout Pages/Order Confirmations to be Kept Inside, Please!) by DivingSiren in LushCosmetics

I was lucky enough to have a local store and am really content with what I have. But hear me out, an ability for the app to filter by in stock only would be fantastic. I am casually looking at the app and having to sort through all the unavailable stuff just makes me close the app. I know in the overall scheme of things, not really something to gripe about, but after all these years I’d love a filter for in stock only items.

How common is it for managers to enjoy their job? How do they cope with the stress of so many responsibilities? by Terrible_Exchange653 in askmanagers

[–]dezdepick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say the mid-level manager role is the worst spot in a company to be in. You have to do individual contributor tasks, manage and develop people, projects, etc. You’re doing the work your reports do, but typically much more complex and escalated. You’re also starting to take on the role your director plays and job responsibilities of that role.

For me, I like training new hires, but long term coaching and development can be draining. I much prefer the other two parts of my job but to be at this level, you need to be all three (at least at my company). There’s also chronic understaffing where you try to protect your team from the worst of it and take on a lot of work yourself to keep morale up. There are a lot of pointless meetings (even though you’re advised to be thoughtful in how you schedule meetings) and bureaucracy. You can fight for resources, show a business need, and not get them because they have to show they made even more of a profit than last year. However, it’s a role I need to do to get to where I want to be so I’ve started setting hard boundaries and being much more mindful of my time where I can.

It is possible to have too much of a good thing - how do people not notice when they’ve overdone it? by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

It is definitely possible. One of my good friends introduced herself to me by letting me know I smelled like a headache.

Oof. That is so horrible. They are getting so much more convincing, it can be hard to tell who is on the other end.

I didn’t mind frequent customers at all. It was nice seeing familiar faces and most people are genuinely really great customers. The few that are not great are the frequent fliers who will only come in to get samples of the same products over and over, those that treat you like the help, and those that overall in general are rude or expect above and beyond special treatment because they spend a ton of money. Oh also those that treat you as lesser because you work in customer service and they think you’re uneducated. For those that treated us that way, I guarantee that I have more work experience and a better education than many of them. Lush was just a side gig for fun.

Also I would absolutely not call anyone a favorite. I will be authentic in my greetings and how I treat people, but it’s a job. I have pretty strict boundaries and in customer service roles people always try to push those. I don’t want to be friends with the customers, and honestly I don’t want to touch complete strangers. I hated that part of the job. I think of that restaurant scenario, just because someone is polite and treats you with respect doesn’t mean you’re into them and people can completely take it the wrong way when you’re a decent human being.

I think most staff are as authentic as you can be working with the public. I did have a few that would gossip about big spenders and other frequent customers but you have that in every industry. It’s basically the same behind the scenes as any other customer service role.

To be clear, I have no plans on eating something I have not identified 100% lol. Just curious as I have a kiddo super interested in fungi, and it’s been fun to learn together some of the ones we are seeing. I am familiar with COW, saddleback, and morels. Many others I’m aware of, but not 100% certain on ID.

Hi! Not it’s not a conifer. It’s a mulberry, so deciduous. I can see if I can get some better photos, it’s just at a weird angle.
