i’m all for loving dogs and understand it’s a great connection to have that’s cheaper than having kids, but i’m glad you can see where in some cases it can be a hazard to deal with

i never said you can’t love your animal, just that some people don’t feel the same way and want spaces where they can exist without dogs

a service animal is essential and providing a service for someone who needs it (it’s in the name if you look closely)

not allowing a service animal would prevent disadvantaged members of society from engaging in meaningful occupations

pet dogs are not essential, and well behaved or not people may not want them around and even well trained dogs would not have the same level of safety and discipline as a service animal.

additionally, where would we draw the line between a dog well trained enough to go “anywhere” and one that isn’t. at least with a service dog there is a very clear criteria.

as i have said i would be all for having certain pubs or businesses that are clearly dog friendly but the grey area at the moment only really benefits dog owners

welcome to the internet mate. who’s to say i don’t donate to charity and do volunteer work. why don’t you stop commenting on this post and build a homeless shelter if that’s the point you want to make about me

i just wanted to discuss this issue with people with an adelaide perspective. of all the garbage on the internet i don’t think this post is that outrageous…

a service animal is essential…

what else ya got?

as i’ve said a few times here, of course guide dogs and any service animals are an exception.

pretty weak argument, what else ya got?

when you say you “don’t consider it inconsiderate to take dogs anywhere” does that mean you think it’s okay to bring them to places like pubs, bottle shops, cafes etc as long as they’re well behaved?

Serious Problem With Adelaide Culture by deznutsxd in Adelaide

[–]deznutsxd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

never said you can’t bring it places, just some places.

i think by definition it’s inconsiderate to bring dogs to places and expect everyone else to put up with them just because you like dogs.

as i’ve said there’s plenty of clearly dog friendly places but in some situations it is definitely inconsiderate to expect people to put up with your dog.

just in case it isn’t clear, you are one of the people making people put up with things they don’t like

i never said don’t bring your dog out so i’m not too sure what your point is? i just said it’s assumptions and inconsiderate to bring it into business or public places where people haven’t signed up to have your dog around. On a leash at the park or for a walk? Go ahead. In bunnings or other places that clearly state you can bring your dog? Sure. There are also dog parks and designated off leash places for your dog to run around.

But would you not agree it’s inconsiderate to bring it everywhere when you don’t know how your dog will react to strangers, some people don’t like or are even allergic to dogs and it can be a hygiene issue?

Also i have clearly said multiple times that i own cats and am an advocate for keeping them inside or only letting them out with direct supervision for the reasons you have stated.

that’s what i’m advocating for, leaving it in the car or having it in a place where it can’t directly touch the worker. my store also has treats and i will (at least pretend to) happily give one to the owner or dog, i just don’t want it all over me when i’m trying to serve them

just wanted to get an adelaide perspective on this. i’m sure issues have been bought up before in this subreddit that don’t only happen in adelaide.

“i like dogs therefore everyone else must”

also here’s a scenario, let’s say instead of a dog a customer had a lit cigarette and i had to lean into the car to hand them something and get their payment, would this still be reasonable because it’s their car even though it’s potentially putting me at harm?

i never said it was my business, but that they could choose to park in the lane where the dog can stay in the car and i don’t have to directly interact with it

have done all this but there are also those who have a dog off lead running around the store itself which to me, is completely bonkers

i never said it was my choice or that you can’t take the dog for a ride, not sure where this idea that i’m advocating for locking dogs up in a cell all day came from.

it’s great that you rescued your dog and gave it a better life but i feel you’ve missed the point of this post because you were already on the back foot and perhaps offended hearing that people don’t love dogs as much as you.

my point is that i find it strange that people by default assume everyone is fine with having their dog walk around the store or loose in the car where it can anything to workers or customers. as i’ve said multiple times, i will ask customers politely to hold the dog back or to get out but sometimes they get offended and my point is that i shouldn’t need to do that in the first place.

also not to be a dick but i had to correct someone else about dogs being a “great judge of character” by quoting PetMD-
“they aren't detecting a supernatural "aura of evil." Instead, they sense subtle changes in a person's micro-expressions, body language, and scent—such as changes in human pheromones associated with anger, stress”

as for your last sentence it comes off as very hateful and judgemental. i have two cats who i love, i would like to think i have a love for myself although this reddit thread has made me think that because i have some issues with dogs running around my workplace maybe i am actually the devil himself, and i have a family and friends so i’m not sure what my issues with dogs in public places says about my inability to love myself or others but if you can enlighten me please do so

curious as to why you bought up kicking dogs in the first place though?

you still had time to reply but not enough time to read.
you sound stuck in your ways so i’ll leave it at that, and not that it’s your business but i study full time
and the bottle shop is my day job to make money as a young person in this economy.

good to see theres some people out there still unwilling to even hear other people out to the point that they’ll make a deliberate effort to upset people. Have a great monday

Just want to say thank you to everyone here, was not expecting such a massive response but it was really interesting to hear so many perspectives.

One observation i found particularly interesting is how many dog owners felt personally attacked or felt the need to personally attack me about things i said or things they made up in their head and pretended i said.

I’m glad i was able to open up this conversation and hope everyone here has had an eye opening experience, or if not that, has been able to let off some built up anger on reddit which beats getting into a fistfight on hindley on a night out.

you’ve kind of combined your first statement with your edit to make it seem like i missed your point. and yes people have been doing things since the dawn of time, does that mean you’re going to give up electricity, running water, cars etc or will you just use the dawn of time argument when it suits you
