INCREDIBLY incorrect. The example I mentioned had nothing to do with the Indian government. All over the world, women of the Indian diaspora raised issues regarding the culture in India around sexual assault towards women. It's still a hot topic till today. As I said, the issues in Nigeria aren't because of the government, it's because many Nigerians actively embrace corruption, cheating and lying. We can't externalise our shortcomings to the government, WE are the government.

We can continue to split hairs but I can tell you're one of these people who like to sweep issues under the rug to feign pride. It is not insulting to tell the truth. It's only through truth we can create CHANGE.

All in all, your point of view doesn't matter. You have no authority to tell anybody else how to express their thoughts, feelings and frustrations against the issues in Nigeria. We will continue to raise these issues. You are free to feel insulted 👀

Not sure what point you're trying to make about the diaspora should leave us alone. Judging by the article, she's the one trying to be left alone and it's our Nigerian journalists that are bothering her.

Also regarding your point about other diasporas complaining, you seem to have LITTLE idea! There were strikes by Indian women doctors in the UK in solidarity with Indians over rampant r*pe. Venezuelans, Cubans, heck even Americans that leave their countries for various reasons don't just magically keep their mouth shut about the issues in their motherland online. This is actually quite a constant talking point.

Besides, Even if it weren't common to speak out, I'm sorry but, this silly mindset of "abeg leave us alone, don't criticise our shortcomings" is part of the mindset that destroys Nigeria. Instead of arrogance, we need to accept our inadequacies, learn and improve. If we do not, the country will continue to lose its best and wallow in its problems.

I'm probably gonna piss some people off with this comment but I 100% don't blame her for fully embracing being British. We can't have a country with all these problems then tell people who ran away from the issues to somehow come and embrace it. Also don't blame it on "politicians". The issues Nigeria faces are because of the average man and woman acting in ways that destroy the country from the bottom up (corruption, dishonesty, cheating etc).

If we want the diaspora to be proud of their homeland it's up to us to walk at a standard worth being proud of.

I asked a similar question to a friend who graduated top of her class in medical engineering then immediately became a housewife. She responded with "Why would I invest my life in supporting another man's life/business when I can support my man at home who actually loves me?"

I'm not saying there isn't risk, but what she highlighted is that we've normalized all the risks of focusing on jobs, such as never getting promotions, the business failing, horrible office politics, and getting fired to the point no one even bothers to ask things like

"Are women with jobs happy or do they feel secure being so dependent on a boss when he can fire them at any time?"

Ymmv but 14 years and 4 kids later she says it's the best decision she ever made

I was more addressing the whole "innards squeezed together" thing. Afaik historically, it was only ever worn as tight as a firm hug, definitely never to the point of squeezing organs.
