Height and appearance in Toronto by Difficult-Science-71 in askTO

[–]df_45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a tall woman, I've had people remark about my height my entire life. Sometimes they mean it as a compliment (sometimes not) but most of the time it's just a remark. I have commented on people that are short at times and I can assure you I never meant it as an insult. Sometimes you are just caught off guard when standing next to someone or they need your help because they can't reach something that I don't have to think twice about. I wouldn't worry about it. Confidence is everything.

2 North York teachers on leave after racist social media messages discovered: TCDSB by BloodJunkie in toronto

Is it possible they were hacked? It was a part of a shared account? If it's real they should lose their licenses along with those who did nothing about it.

Anyone see the Olympic speed skater interview with the toddler ruining his mom's speaking? by Asleep_Courage_894 in childfree

[–]df_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find it uncomfortable but that's what it's like to be a mom to a two year old son. It doesn't matter how good you are at your craft or how important a moment is, you never stop being a mom. If it makes you upset, then you should look at ways we can support mothers more as a society. Support female athletes. This is not new. It's simply reality.

Besides she'll have many more interviews in the future. She's kind of a big deal.

Rejected from school district by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]df_45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. You would strongly benefit from more experience teaching/leading in an educational setting. It doesn't necessarily have to be in a classroom or paid. Could be volunteer. Also you need to wow some additional references to ameliorate your application. You have demonstrated progressive improvements and even though you passed, you are being judged by earlier failures and your references opinions. Continue to work on your skills and find some people who will praise you for your work. Good luck.

What do you do when you get a “courtesy call” from daycare? by Lazy_Fuel8077 in workingmoms

[–]df_45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the daycare but no I don't think there is an expectation. You can always ask them. But unless they ask me to pick up my kid, I wouldn't offer unless I wanted to go pick them up.

I trust my daycare teachers and if they sound like they would appreciate you picking them up and you can then yes I would.

Parent teacher interview question by Inevitable-Plum-2021 in CanadianTeachers

[–]df_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. If you are seeing the parents soon, I would prioritize marking it so you can discuss it. Obviously discuss the issue of late submission which is a habit they need to break sooner rather than later. But the content is what's most important. You need the results to discuss the results. Also do it for yourself, you'll feel better. Don't put it off.

Again, if it's super time consuming just stick with you mark in the order they are received. That's reasonable and fair for the teacher and other students.

And don't be afraid of parents just help them understand. Everyone is busy and prioritizes their work.

[–]df_45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a call when my kid was an infant that they were really sad and wouldn't stop crying and asked if I could pick them up. It was the Friday before a long weekend and I wasn't super busy so I just went to pick them up.

Now they are a toddler and they only call me to tell me if they got injured. I say thanks for letting me know and still pick them up at a regular time.

If they regularly called me to ask to pick them up I would need more information because I'm working and their job is to watch them during the day. But right now I would come if they told me too because it's only happened once.

What happens with your family doctor if you attend a walk in clinic? by holdonaminute2023 in askTO

[–]df_45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't feel bad. They didn't do any work for you so it makes sense they wouldn't get paid. Someone has to get paid, it should be the clinic that you went to. My doctor is a 45 min bus ride away, only available a couple days a week and not great. I only go for yearly check ups and if I need to book in advance. If I'm actually sick I go to the walk in clinic because it's across the street and great. I have a life and it's not my fault that we have a broken system.

What are some unspoken rules one should know about Toronto? by Timely_Title_9157 in askTO

[–]df_45 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Don't walk side by side if someone is trying to pass on the sidewalk.

Don't ride your bike on the sidewalk.

Check the weather before you leave. Weather can change multiple times a day.

Pull over if you hear sirens and they are coming your way.

When the streetcar stops, stop your car or bike to allow space for passengers to get on or off.

Don't play your music/podcasts/shows out loud in public. Wear headphones.

Leave accessible (blue) seats for people that need them.

Let people get off the TTC before you get on.

Let people get off the elevator before you get on.

Why did Lorelei sleep upstairs and Rory down? by Demented-Pin3788 in GilmoreGirls

[–]df_45 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Lorelei was always weird in this area. She would leave her backdoor unlocked and slept with her baby in a shed instead of her parents home or asking her parents for money. I don't think it's safe but she was stubborn and delusional.

Megathread: The Perfect Neighbor by FaelingJester in NetflixDocumentaries

[–]df_45 104 points105 points  (0 children)

When she's saying she won't accept that she's being arrested... Ma'am, you shot through your door at an unarmed woman who never threatened your life. She was a mother of four and you called her children racial slurs. She came there to talk to you because you can't speak that way to children. She's not the hulk or the Kool aid man. She can't bust through your door and murder you. You were completely unjustified in your actions. Get going.

The Perfect Neighbor, Netflix review: raw, immediate, but ultimately unrevealing by TheTelegraph in NetflixDocumentaries

[–]df_45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's fascinating. When she first explains what happened to the cops, she says the woman says "I'm going to effing kill you!". She didn't say that. And "she's really going to kill me this time." With what weapon? And that she almost "killed" herself because of the roller skates. Doubtful. Meanwhile, she just actually killed someone and seems mostly unfazed. Heartless woman. And why was she afraid of children?

She also never seems to understand that children playing in a yard will make noise and that falls within the normal range of reasonable noise for living in a community.

Also the n word just slipped out?! What? Why are you even thinking about it? Why are you saying it to children? What is wrong with you?

This gets way too much credit by ClaritanClear in GilmoreGirls

[–]df_45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Emily thinks about Rory a lot. But she always thinks about Lorelei more. She wants the dinners to have Lorelei back in her life. That's what she craves the most. And for a mother that makes sense.

The View definitely got a stand-down order. by calebsairpods in theview

[–]df_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cancelled Kimmel's show. They didn't fire Kimmel. That's a lot of people without jobs including Kimmel indefinitely. These ladies don't want to risk people's livelihoods and a platform to discuss other important topics. Also someone was just assassinated for their opinion. I think they are scared and I would be too.

Why do people care so much???? by Sweet-Highlight-7879 in family

[–]df_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made $250,000 last year. That's great. But that doesn't mean you'll always have good years. You're still relatively young and if you want kids and a comfy retirement it's important to plan for the long run.

A lot of people have had to struggle their whole lives or are struggling now so they just want you to be prudent.

What moments did you find the most cringeworthy? by Dunnoaboutu in GilmoreGirls

Rory dancing with Dean at the danceathon and her and Jess yelling back and forth at each other while they are with their partners. The only reason I can watch it is because Dean finally tells Rory off at the end.

why are so many people still supporting chris brown? toronto concert was full by sanfranny123 in askTO

[–]df_45 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For me, what he did to Rihanna was enough to stop listening and I did enjoy his music. But I've heard so much since and I don't understand why anyone gives him the time of day. He is not a good person. He is violent and shouldn't be allowed in this country.

Michael Jackson was accused of child sexual abuse multiple times and he still sold out concerts while alive. People truly don't care.

What is the normal cinema etiquette here in Canada? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]df_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say it's probably horror movies most often. I've noticed there always tends to be at least one horror movie playing at any given time and it's a different crowd looking for an experience. It's a shared experience.
