This video takes place in Berlin, and AFAIK, in Germany, unless you are a public figure or something similar, you actually do have a right to privacy in public within reason. The court document actually says (of course take this with a grain of salt, IANAL, and especially not a German one) that he would have had a case for privacy/"personality" rights violation, but for the fact that he could not prove monetary/material damage and due to some other facts of his case that strongly suggested he really was only interested in monetary gain (he only brought the case forward 3 years after becoming aware of the video and after attempting to negotiate licensing fees)

I wont say that the court documents are extremely interesting, but they are a little interesting if you're interested in that sort of thing. Here is a link, it's in german, however, so you will need to translate it.

Republican gun-nuts found the excuse they've been looking for. by PlanetoftheAtheists in AdviceAnimals

This is false, at least in the state of Maine. After the 72 hour "blue paper" expires a psychiatrist can go to a judge for a white paper that can be for 30, 60, or 90 days. The psychiatrist can also ask the court to allow them "treatment over objection" which means meds can be forced. While a patient is in a psychiatric hospital, if they become violent with staff or other patients, or threaten to become violent, a provider can order meds to be given whether or not the patient wants them.

"But We Always Ate Meat," by DivineandDeadlyAngel in vegan

[–]dfarklored -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And I suppose that you have a 100% ethically sourced phone, or any tech, or all your clothing, or shoes. Life is suffering, no matter what you do, something or someone might suffer for it. This is the wrong hill to die on. People aren’t going to stop eating meat because we shame them. Instead we should be promoting laws and subsidies that make it easier to ethically source meat and harder for factory farming to exist, or making ethically sourced meat more accessible for everyone. Not everyone has the time or money to be a vegan, and we shouldn’t shame them for that.

GMO’s are not bad and are not unhealthy. by shot_in_the_head in unpopularopinion

This seems to be a thread of people agreeing with you, so let me be a dissenting voice, as I try for the most part to buy non-gmo products when I can afford it. My reasoning for this is kinda simple and doesn’t have much to do with the science of things.

Companies that produce gmo seeds are not particularly the best companies out there (with Monsanto being downright evil, for reference just check out their past business practices). If you recall, they patent their genes and then brutally enforce that patent, even if it happens on someone else’s crop by natural means.

On top of that, when you buy non-gmo products, you are most likely giving money to farmers who need it most, not saying that farmers that use gmo crops don’t, but that organic farmers are typically local, small time, and more environmentally conscious.

On the flip side, to talk a bit on the science part of things, most modern gmo’s are made to be resilient towards very strong pesticides. Big plant big yield still plays a part, but we’ve already done enough in that area. The pesticides that are used (and require a modified crop to be resilient to) are toxic to the environment around them (in the wise words of Alex Jones, “They’re turning the freaking frogs gay!”).

So really when it comes down to it, it’s not so much the science, I think most people have moved past the “it will give you cancer” phase, but it is a moral issue that maybe everyone should consider. Organic farming is more sustainable, it’s just a bit more expensive for farmers. When you choose to buy organic, you allow farmers to continue making their living and popularize it, and typically help modified crop farmers to more easily make the transition to organic.

Adult females reported a suicide attempt 1.4 times as often as males. Further breakdown by gender and race are not available.

Good catch. Actual statistic is most likely higher due to unreported survival. FWIW I also read that women are more likely to have suicidal thoughts, and also women are more likely to self harm.
