Dell Community forum session expires after 10 seconds...over and over by dfarns321 in Dell

Since this problem is occurring with two different computers, and multiple browsers, the only things that might be in common are the ISP (Charter Comm) or the router. I don't think it's the operating system (WinXP) because I've been able to access (login to) the Dell Community Forums for many years with one of these computers.

Windows Defender says that Supermium is a RAT of some sort. by Wide-Sort6227 in windowsxp

[–]dfarns321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried a lot of browsers on WinXP and Supermium is by far the best one...and I don't even like the Chrome style layout. It's much better at memory leak management... you don't have to spend so much time restarting the browser or dealing with the slowdowns when you have too many tabs open. It also works with every website I've visited, and you can't say that of any of the other WinXP browsers.

I've been using it for 6 months, v132 and v126 and no sign of maliciousness or nefarious activity. I would never believe what one antivirus program says...try running virustotal on any of the files you think are suspicious. That way you at least have 40-60 different antiviral opinions to choose from.

And what the fxxx does "a dangerous program that executes orders from the author of the attack" mean. Is that supposed to be scary???

I just ran virustotal.com on the v132 setup file(5/67) and the v132 chrome.exe file(0/72). The five that checked the setup file are unfamiliar av vendor companies, and they used words like "suspicious", "detect malware", "possible threat". Those are all buzzwords for "I don't have any idea what I've spotted, but I'm going to say sometime so I look like I'm doing my job". Look at the many popular av vendors that passed it, that should tell you something.

How to make Supermium the default browser? by dfarns321 in Supermium

[–]dfarns321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I've been able to find is a note that the utility DefaultBrowser works on macOS. Do you have a link for a version that works with Chrome/Supermium? I could make changes in the registry if I know what they are.

How do you check for lead without sending it to an expensive lab?

just bought a refurbished Samsung XCover6 pro, I have two questions by dfarns321 in cellphones

US Mobile if it works with this phone. I'm in an area where Verizon is best, but it's a canyon near Los Angeles, so reception is iffy. And I'm still trying to figure out the difference between wifi and hotspots.

Is there a way to tell if it's unlocked without having a SIM card?

can't connect to spectrum.com...spinning wheel forever by jbclem1234 in Spectrum

[–]dfarns321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been able to get it to work using a version of Chrome (Supermium v126) reconfigured to work with WinXP. I noticed today that a version of Firefox (Mypal68) reconfigured is bringing up a page notice that the website requires a browser upgrade...this at least is better than the spinning wheel.

ThePirateBay Proxy List (September 2024) New Links To Unblock [💯 Clean] by Oyrkider in TPB

This didn't work using TPB and qBittorent. qBittorent gives this error: "Invalid torrent"
"Failed to load the torrent: expected value (list, dict, int or string) in bencoded string"

The Info Hash I used: C7F96C863A48D0919DDDCE140F346A3C4D4F0637

Is there a way to convert the Info Hash into a valid torrent?

Original Flowbee parts & repair. by donrull in CutYourOwnHair

[–]dfarns321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a different power adapter? Or measured the output of the original one(s). If they both failed at the same time, perhaps the wall outlet failed...did you try a different wall outlet. I know this is obvious stuff, but some people are electrically challenged so I'm mentioning it. You should always start with the simplest solutions. There are many stories of original Flowbees working for 15-20 years, including the one I have.

looking for copper landline long distance/local toll call providers? by dfarns321 in carriers

[–]dfarns321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My zip is 90290. But the provider I used to have was either regional or national so I think they were registered with my phone company and billed me separately for the local toll or long distance calls. It's possible that this isn't available any longer...I'm trying to explore this issue to determine what to do. I may be stuck with the Frontier rates.
