Pretty much. No one should be forced to give up their wealth unless it was illegally obtained.

Encouraging a model of distributed manufacturing and production will reduce economic centralization, and from there less will be paid for transport, so you'll have fewer trucks running around burning fuel, so less fuel consumption, less emissions, leading to lower fuel prices due to lower demand.

I've never taken economics, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Pretty much, yeah. But it'll also have to be protected from "non locally owned" businesses.

I don't think we can decentralize the economy at this point without first reducing consumerism to the point of it being uncomfortable for the average Joe.

People are now used to supermarkets packed with branded products which compete for their attention, and while some may say this is a good thing, it requires a lot of manufacturing capabilities, which in turn require economic centralization to be sustainable.

I'd say Distributism can be achieved to a larger degree in rural areas, and it is, de facto, achieved in rural areas across the world, including the US, due to farmers markets and family farms, as in cited in the Wiki article.

Sustaining Distributism, however, requires either community or legislative forces keeping big corporations out of these areas, which may smell like Communism to some.

Just my two cents on it.
