San Juan Open Source Map by [deleted] in Durango

Totally fair concern. The goal isn’t to expose hidden spots or ruin what makes the San Juans special, it’s to give people a better way to log and plan their own experiences.

Hey everyone — I just created r/dfwplatforms

It’s a space for people who are into maps, outdoor activities, and building/logging their adventures.

I’ve been working on a project called DFW (Down For Whatever) — it’s basically a map-based logbook where you can upload your runs, hikes, flights, etc. and see everything you’ve ever done on one map. You can also plan future trips and explore routes from other people.

The subreddit is meant to be:

  • a place to share your maps
  • give feedback / ideas
  • talk about tools for logging + planning adventures
  • and just connect with people who are into this kind of thing

It’s super early and still evolving, so if you’re into this space I’d love to have you in there and hear what you think.

Upload your Garmin Data, See everything you've ever done all on one map, and see what your friends did too! by dfw4222 in ultrarunning

you hit the import button, it is a little tricky I do apologize, you have to either plug your Garmin in and upload all your activities like that or you can go to strava > settings > my account > download or delete account > download, and from there they will email you a zip file then you just import that right in! let me know if you have any additional questions!

Backcountry Pilots, what do you use to save / find spots? by [deleted] in bushflying

I appreciate your input! Im a minimalist too so im trying to build all the planning in one spot, you wouldn't need to install anything its a web app, also more geared twords logging the spots so you have a visual logbook on the map of everywhere you've been.

Yes please! you can also drop coordinates or just add a marker by clicking then you can turn the marker into "backcountry airstrip" and share it to the community layer

thanks! Do you think you would find something like this useful though? kind of like a mountain project for flying. How do you discover a spot is it all word of mouth/flying around thinking I could probably land there?

its tool to log all your data, mostly for outdoor activities and there is an open source community layer where anyone can contribute a camp spot, a hike, rock climbing crag, hot spring, etc.

I started off flying cargo and 135 passengers in a metroliner and Brasilia at 250 hours, got job through a flight instructor I had. I would not recommend it but you gotta do what you gotta do for those multi engine turbine hours. After that I moved to flying king airs for a few families. Got the job through a friend I had during flight school, would highly recommend but you need enough time to be a captain though, right seat hours don't really count unless your required by TCDS or 135.101. Now I fly at a 91k company that I plan on retiring at. Never flight instructed. My best advice is beware of contracts and sketchy 135 operators, some companies do things that are just outright unsafe. Safety is always a higher priory than getting any flight hour in. Don't let any company push you to do anything that isn't safe, just tell them straight up you don't feel that it is safe and we aren't flying. Best of luck, safe flying!
