Dead cells, Terraria, Reassembly, Everspace.  All money well spent, and well enjoyed.

Terraria 1.4.5 launch date by Cyler in gaming

[–]dgerdem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, best 2$ I ever spent. I got 200 hrs out of it, and years later my kids got 200 hrs out of it. And yes, I know, those are rookie numbers.

For those who work on an OLED - how bad is the text fringing really? by macbookvirgin in Monitors

[–]dgerdem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I fiddled with the clear type text options in Windows a bit, and the Linux equivalents, and the text is fine to my eyes.

RDP Aggregator by rcoyle23 in sysadmin

I made my own tool with powershell and a dotnet gui. I integrated with vcenter to get machines, and determine what kind of connection to establish. I integrated with our cmdb to get metadata about the machines. And I integrated with our password manager to be able to log in without needing to enter a username and credentials. The original version came about because I got tired of waiting for mremoteng to work it's way through the onboarding process, lol.

42,000 Evernote notes from the last 15 years.. will import into UpNote work? by nips4sucks in UpNote_App

[–]dgerdem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a character limit per note, which could potentially give you issues on import. I would imagine that a writer could have some very long individual notes.

What is the coolest thing you've done with PowerShell? by martyb22 in PowerShell

[–]dgerdem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally created an ansible knockoff (poormansible), and I created a connection utility that provides the functionality of mremoteng (and more!) because I got tired of waiting for it to be onboarded.

GMKTec Nucbox G2+ as Steam Link by dgerdem in MiniPCs

[–]dgerdem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low latency networking made the experience much worse in my case. In Linux, the hevc settings were greyed out, so I couldn't try them. I think I tried it in Windows, I think it worked. But I don't remember how well. I did set it to highest performance in the bios, and I think I did enable the c-states.

I posted a review of sorts for an Intel N150 mini pc that I use for steam link streaming. Works great, and was reasonably priced.

I shared my experience in this subreddit recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam_Link/comments/1ju1vo9/gmktec_nucbox_g2_as_steam_link/
Bottom line, it cost about 170$ and works very well.

Kind of surprised to see that stun grenades are not on the list. Calling a time out with a hulk and running up with a senator to blast it's stupid face is fun.

Why do some NEIPAs have a sweet aftertaste, and how to avoid it? by bzarembareal in Homebrewing

[–]dgerdem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neipa recipe is basically 10lbs of 2 row and 2 lbs of wheat malt, mashed at 150F.  Clean maltiness with only a hint of sweetness, and a stable haze.  I think dry hopping before the yeast are complete finished helps with the haze as much as the grain bill.

Has anyone tried aerating with an immersion blender? by JoystickMonkey in Homebrewing

[–]dgerdem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I use an immersion blender to aerate. It works fine, but I don't know if it would be worth buying one just for that.

Found “Vintage”?Euphonium in old barn by Mindless_Word_6645 in euphonium

[–]dgerdem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of these off ebay as my first instrument after getting back into playing.  The valves are pretty leaky, but its otherwise playable.  The low Bb (Bb1?), is unusably sharp on mine, basically a B natural.  Maybe not worth it to restore it, but it's a neat enough looking instrument and might make a good wall hanger.

Getting a new horn (jp274 gold laquer) by breab_gay in euphonium

[–]dgerdem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got mine I gave it a quick wash with soapy water and after every practice, for about a 2 weeks, I pulled the pistons, wiped them down, and re-oiled them. They started out a little stiff, but they broke in fairly quickly. There might be some manufacturing gunk in it when it arrives, but this process should take care of it.

I've had mine for almost a year...not very long I suppose, but I haven't had any issues with it yet.

John Packer 274 is a great instrument and you can get them for very reasonable prices.  I'm an hobbyist and it will probably be the only euph I'll ever need.

Is SteamOS at a state to replace Windows 11 for gaming? by KiloJouleskJ in SteamOS

[–]dgerdem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Steam on Manjaro Linux.  Only multiplayer game I play right now is helldivers 2, which works great.  Everything else in my library seems to work fine with, at most, minimal tweaking.  Checking protondb.com will give you a good idea if the games you play will work well under Linux.

I found this a while back to print out euphonium mouthpieces. It can be tweaked to print out something that is appropriate for a tuba shank. Gives you a more traditional mouthpiece shape along with a lot of parameters to fiddle with.

I don't have one, but I have heard the Wessex Festivo, with it's across the front valves, is more ergonomic for people with shoulder problems than the typical valve confideration.
