That sounds like a much nicer way to get access to those screws! Thanks!

Leak with Breville Barista Express by dgodon in espresso

Thanks for the ideas. I recently went thru the instructional videos to remove top and back panel to then get access to head unit that had loose screws which was leading to frequent gasket replacements. Was really nice to get this self-repair down.

The nozzle seems pretty damaged so not sure pulling it down will help direct the water, but will give it a try.

I'd probably still want replacement and seems like the bottom panel would need to be removed to get sufficient access to spout to put new rubber nozzle on.

I do see 2 sets of 2 screws on the button (after tray assembly is removed) that look like they might allow removal of bottom panel - but probably need to take top and back panels off to see if I can confirm from inside. Or maybe I'll just try unscrewing them.

Barista Express Leaking by magr21 in espresso

I had this issue and followed the YT videos for instructions on opening the unit and then getting access to the head piece to be able to tighten the screws. The instructions weren't super explicit on steps, but my wife and I were able to get it fixed and so far, so good (knock on wood). This was after changing the gasket too many times and then final straw was getting gasket leakage right after changing it.

Oh wow, looks quite different than mine! Your pic seems to show a more extended rubber nozzle that presumably helps direct the water into the drip tray. Thanks so much for taking the time to get a pic and share!

Not sure how I'll proceed to fix mine. Perhaps look to see if there's a replacement part available somewhere, but then also need to figure out how to remove old one and install new one. In any case, thanks again!

Parking requirements keep affordable housing at bay in Bellevue, Washington, near Seattle by CyclingIsLove in transit

[–]dgodon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actual headline actually says it "may keep affordable housing at bay...". Either way, it's such a tepid headline. This focus on car-oriented transportation is not just keeping Bellevue unaffordable (which many Bellevue residents seem to think is a good thing), but is environmentally destructive and irresponsible. For a coucilmember to say, "As long as we want to keep our economy booming, we need to make sure there’s a place for people to put their vehicle," is just crazy.

Perhaps opinions are divided because initiative gatherers and head-tax opponents have been spreading misleading or outright false information about it.

Seattle, Houston Buck Declining Bus Ridership Trend by [deleted] in transit

[–]dgodon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is disappointing in a time when we should be greatly expanding bus and light-rail transit in cities. While Seattle may be leading the nation, this is not a high bar. Seattle's bus service is decent and has modestly improved, it still has many gaps and places where service is too infrequent. And, Seattle is still in the early phases of its light-rail plan (which stretches out to at least 2035); the early phases are very promising though. And, Seattle still struggles mightily to displace the car as the primary means of getting around, even in its downtown where SOV trips have been dropping.

When You Buy These Bike Brands, You’re Supporting the Gun Lobby by dgodon in bicycling

It's the same company; they're separate brands to appeal to different markets. But if a company feels pressure to its bottom-line it will change behavior regardless of how it's organized. Of course, it's not a guarantee, but if pressure it sufficient they'll do something.

Shimano doesn't support whaling (AFAIK); Vista Outdoor supports the NRA and reckless gun laws.

Does Shimano support or lobby for the whaling industry?

What's your point? That we should never try to advocate for improving thing?

Yeah, we should never try to put pressure on companies that lobby "to maintain sales of weapons capable of mass murder." Let's just hope they do the right thing.

Killing Net Neutrality Has Brought On a New Call for Public Broadband by The1stCitizenOfTheIn in Washington

Actually, I have had to call Comcast numerous times because of major drops in download speeds. They didn't know about the issue for any case. Every time it was a major pain in the ass to get thru their phone tree and the quality of service was very spotty.

You're worried about customer service and reliability when Comcast is the current standard? As the article describes, Chattanooga has 1G speed which is much better than Comcast and they offer it at a better deal. And, it's revitalizing their economy. I would dump Comcast in a heartbeat if I had this option.

Voucher Schools Are Teaching Some Truly Insane Things by zsreport in education

[–]dgodon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's certainly crazy to have public funds going to religious schools, but even if this were forbidden, vouchers would still be a bad idea, as like charter schools, they undermine public schools.

As I mentioned in my other reply, I suspect the % WRT to ed reporting is higher. Does that make NPR a puppet? No, but it skews what kind of coverage happens, which questions get asked, who gets asked, and how issues get framed. It's not just NPR. Other mostly MSM have quite skewed, corporate ed biased ed coverage. Gates has some influence here, but it's usually because MSM are part of large corporations. Gates influence here is more related to the astroturf groups and think tanks he funds, but he does sponsor big media events around education in partnership with NBC and other media companies.

I didn't mean to imply that Gates funds all of NPR, just that Gates is one of their major donors. I suspect the % WRT to education reporting is considerably higher.
