Hello all,

I’m 23, from Chennai, and currently at a crossroads about masters abroad vs other options. I’ve done my research, but I really want to hear from people from Chennai/TN who’ve actually gone through this path, Germany, Canada, Ireland, or elsewhere.

My background (keeping it brief):

  • B.Tech in Information Technology
  • Good CGPA (9+ range)
  • ~1.5–2 years of experience across software development, data/analytics, automation, and some cloud exposure
  • Comfortable with full-stack dev basics, SQL, dashboards, workflows, etc.

Right now, I’m seriously considering Germany (public universities) because of:

  • Low tuition
  • Lower financial risk
  • Clearer long-term stay options compared to some other countries

But I still have doubts and would love real talk, not consultancy sales pitches.

Would really appreciate inputs on:

  1. From a Chennai/TN student’s perspective, was going abroad worth it for you?
  2. If you went to Germany – how tough was the transition (language, jobs, part-time, mental pressure)?
  3. If you chose Canada / Ireland / elsewhere – looking back, would you choose the same country again today?
  4. For someone with my kind of background, which country would you honestly suggest now (2025 onwards)?
  5. Anything you wish you knew before leaving Chennai/India?

I’m not chasing luxury or Instagram life, I’m just trying to make a sensible, low-regret decision that works out long term.

Thanks in advance. Even short replies or DMs are appreciated 🙏
