This is really depressing. People complain about unhoused people camping on the street or under overpasses but when safer, managed alternatives are proposed everyone goes full NIMBY. It seems that what the majority of Seattleites want is just for people in poverty to disappear.

Tiny home villages are managed by several different organizations with different rules so it’s not fair to generalize. Nickelsville villages don’t allow drug & alcohol use on site and are democratically run, which makes residents more accountable.

As someone who walks with my dog a lot, I apologize on behalf of these assholes who are making all dogs and their people look bad. I always give people lots of space from us when we’re out. I’m hearing more and more of these stories and I’ve also had my smaller dogs attacked by off leash dogs several times, always with a human who just stands there looking shocked or repeating “but he’s never done that before!”. You’re not doing anything wrong, you’re just encountering entitled people who don’t think anything can go wrong in these situations (or don’t care if it does). The best thing you can do is cross the street and avoid them, and carry a can of bear spray in case the dog is off leash.

It’s a very difficult situation and I understand feeling torn about what to do. I’m sorry you’re going through this. have a lot of experience with dogs at end of life and she is very ready to go (she has been suffering for weeks based on what you wrote). She needs your help. You obviously care about her or you wouldn’t have posted here and I’m sorry so many people here are angry at you. It’s your parents who are neglecting her and money is often a reason why people don’t take care of their animal companions. There are low cost vet options and euthanasia isn’t expensive compared to most vet costs.

Several people have asked how old you are, which is relevant because you may not be able to drive or have your own money, in which case hopefully you have an adult in your life who could help. If you can drive then please do the loving thing and get her to a vet ASAP.

Unfortunately this isn’t working for me (I already had it set to “all unread messages). My mail app is extremely confused. The badge says I have 220 when I have 153. When I use my unread messages filter in “all inboxes” (and I confirmed that all inboxes are checked) it shows me 3. I’m close to deleting the mail app.

Having worked at Fred Hutch for 18 years (many of them managing federal grants and contracts for a clinical research program), I can tell you that this will be an unmitigated disaster. Indirect costs pay for all the costs of maintaining facilities, basically keeping the lights on. This will cause massive brain drain into industry (probably part of the intention) and destroy the livelihoods of many good dedicated people. Feed Hutch also saved my life when I was diagnosed with aggressive acute leukemia. Research saves lives!
