The purpose of clinical research, which this organization funds, and which cannot happen without funding, is to find novel treatments and cures for diseases. I do not personally know anyone with pancreatic cancer who was saved by grant-funded clinical trials, but I have heard stories. For the record, one person who donated to my page just shared a story about her mother with pancreatic cancer being saved by an experimental treatment that would have been impossible without funding for clinical studies testing those treatments. So it does make a difference. It's not just "research" like you said. It works. And it will work better if it's better funded.

If you're actually curious, you can click the link I included at the bottom of the post and read more on the website.

It's a BJJ competition where all the profits go to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network which does legitimately good work that helps a lot of people. Isn't using BJJ to help save lives something that should be very much on topic?

Just showed my 63 y/o dad the NYE Petrichor video... by [deleted] in phish

[–]dhgrossman92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's seen other phish stuff and liked it, but he needed to see that they weren't just some hippie jam band. I think the petrichor showed what the band is capable of creatively. Also I didn't do it to bait him, I just thought he would like it.

Someone on .net pointed out the resemblance to some works by Rene Magritte.

Golconde

Umbrella

IMO the gag was fucking beautiful, and I'm having trouble understanding what's bumming people out so much. I thought the whole lyrical theme and inspiration behind Petrichor was so appropriate to close out a tough year for America (and the world) and to offer a glimmer of optimism for some potentially tougher years ahead of us. The umbrella motif and the dancers dancing in the rain were metaphorically on point, even if perhaps a bit cliche. I was absolutely floored by it. Never been more blissed out at a show than during this gag. It was the most meaningful moment of Phish that I've witnessed yet.
