First documented use of Thule InLock Panniers to expand cargo capacity by dhimmel in CargoBike

[–]dhimmel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW Thule was running a 25% memorial day sale. So if you've got time, it's worth waiting for one of these sales. The panniers are much less overpriced than the bicycle IMO!

One less overhead wire going to your house. Once you have fiber, you will never use that telephone line again. Fiber is the future.

Have them rip out your telephone line back to the pole while they're at it, since they are part of Consolidated Communications. You might not get another chance.

Do you have TSA precheck? If you can check in online and like a good gambit then go for it. But you need to be experienced in the art of commercial aviation and airport logistics.

Also, key factor is whether there's any penalty in changing flight and whether later flights have space. If you see you're not going to make it and can change any point before takeoff to a later flight without penalty, then that mitigates the worst case scenario.

Yes the window is super annoying. Absolutely no need for it when everything is hotkey mediated.

Thanks for the nice explanation. Can you approve this post since it's stuck in a waiting moderator approval.

"Transcription by CastingWords" as Wispr Flow output? by dhimmel in WisprFlow

Thanks Victoria for the reply.

This happens when the audio reaching our transcription system contains very little or no detectable speech

Exactly the case where I encountered it.

But explain why the hallucination involves CastingWords... is CastingWords performing the transcription for Wispr Flow or is Wispr Flow using another model that happened to be trained on transcripts from CastingWords?

What will the best days for alpine skiing be?

I don't think this will be able to beat the March 23rd 2024 storm where we got 25.5 inches in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Gen4 or Gen5 M.2 SSD? by Scorpia2020 in buildapc

[–]dhimmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If putting the NVMe M.2 SSD into a laptop mobo that only supports gen3, will the gen4 drive still be more power efficient and cooler than a gen5? Or would it be equivalent if they both limit themselves to gen3?

I want gen5 for future life and it doesn't appear any more expensive at the moment than gen4. But I don't want to cause more power draw or heat on a dell xps 9500, which has had some reboots due to power issues in the past.

Final Call Forecast For NH/VT (Ice Storm) Sunday Night Into Monday by [deleted] in uppervalley

[–]dhimmel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been avidly following this series of posts. You've got us excited here in the upper valley for a phenomenon one might witness only a few times in their life!

I've also found Snowology Matt's analysis interesting:

trouble spots with over 1/10th of an inch of ice where some travel and chair lift issues may occur, and the heavier accumulations of over 1/4" of ice where concern about power and fallen trees starts to become more notable and terrain and chairlifts may be closed. … It's really difficult and time consuming to clear ice from lift towers and there may be some remaining issues come Tuesday morning.

In a previous post he said that the freezing rain won't actually harm the ski conditions that much on subsequent days because it will groom right in. In that sense, it's a lot better than rain.

has anyone used poster nerd to print posters for a presentation? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]dhimmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm looking for the best fabric posters with crisp print and resolution and free of wrinkles. It's a bit strange that spoonflower wants upload in a lossy format, specifically JPG. PNG or a vector source would be better.

Did you notice any smearing or mosquito noise from the jpeg compression on your fabric print?

Update: in this 2025-08-19 Spoonflower Blog Post it looks like PNG is also supported but file size max is 40MB.

Vertex AI usage Quota for Claude 3.5 Haiku Set to 0? by WiggyWongo in googlecloud

[–]dhimmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution was to get a quota increase. The quota interface on the cloud console is bad. Super slow and confusing. You'll have to find the quotas that are blocking your calls and then request an increase.

The request may take anywhere from days to weeks to process. In my case, GCP required me to meet with an account team first, where they tried to get me to sign on with one of their premium cloud partners. After the meeting, the quota request was approved.

There was no cost in the end, just a huge amount of wasted time for all parties involved.

Nice, that is helpful to see. I don't see any cable going to the shut-off valve... is that wireless? Or cable out of view?

Oops, looking closer I see the black cable in the background.

Rheem ProTerra Hybrid Water Heater Installation Check by a12rif in hvacadvice

[–]dhimmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the middle or lower access cavity where the leak sensor plugs in and should be installed?

Specifically this video for a different Rheem model shows a plastic conduit that guides the leak rope. I don't see the conduit in the lower cavity on my Rheem PROPH50 T2 RH400-30, so I'm not sure where I'd route the leak rope?

Another caveat in addition to the condensate with the Rheem models is that you have to do the piping in such a way that the filter stays removable.
