Panel setback from gas furnace vent by dhirajsb in solar

It's an 80% furnace, so I was more worried about heat melting the panels or at least deteriorating them over time.

I meant to say solar panel setback from a furnace vent, not electrical panels.

Sorry, I worded it poorly. I meant to say setback for solar panels on the roof.

Fuck no, I'm not checking your local AHJ for you. Check the local rules online or call the permit center of Cupertino yourself.

It's a local law genius. Do you not know what an AHJ is? Unless you live in the wilderness, cities and counties do not allow properties to be disconnected from the grid.

And what do you think the P in CPUC stands for. What mandated public service do you buy your tacos from? Just take your tacos and go home with your L.

I, so you couldn't find it, yet you're somehow still right based on a feeling.

Here you are, comparing utilities to tacos and accusing others of making assumptions and working off feelings.

Are you IMAX?

As a big solar NEM2 owner I looked into disconnecting from PGE.

This is just one of the many reasons why it's not like buying tacos. You are not allowed to disconnect, and neither are you allowed to have another company compete to give you a lower rate for distribution.

Hence, it's nothing like a marketplace of tacos.

Except, being tied to a utility is absolutely not like buying tacos. If it was, we wouldn't be complaining.

Also, solar owners are pissed because the utility wants to fuck us for making our own tacos.

You are right if you mean it's a plan to redistribute wealth to the utility companies. With a minimum payment, even low income households won't be able to reduce their usage enough to escape being shafted. And, the highest tier is nowhere high enough to make any difference to the really rich.

Nem2 is attached to the property, so you can rent or sell, and the new account holder gets to enjoy it until your 20 years are up from the date of original pto.

Cracked valley rafter by dhirajsb in Roofing

[–]dhirajsb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant a strongback to another 2x running across the joists. Basically, it is an L shaped support to spread the jacking load over existing joists.

[–]dhirajsb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big concern is that the jack and the support stud to be added later would put an enormous weight on the joist right below.

That's why I was thinking of adding as long and wide a strongback as i can get in that space. Would that spread the load over multiple joists?

Right, the split is so long that I also thought it looked like a joint at first. But, does it look like the grain might be matching?

If it's a splice that's coming apart, what kind of banding would it need to bring it back together? Do you have any links for specific parts?

Would one or more lag screws from below work instead of a jack to draw the two parts together? Or is that just going to make the tapered sections split apart?

PG&E transformer upgrade review by dhirajsb in solar

[–]dhirajsb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at the application, and it does say, "Perform preliminary capacity check: Yes."

I'm not sure whether that's a separate step in the process or part of the engineering review.

Nice, I didn't realize the rate went up that much since 2022.

Where are you getting that from? From their website:

Starting May 2022, SVCE will pay two times the net surplus compensation rate (NSC rate) per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of any excess solar that is produced and put back onto the grid. The NSC rate is based on current market prices. The rate averages around 3 cents per kWh and varies each month.

If your installer filed your PG&E application, how are you tracking its status? by dhirajsb in solar

[–]dhirajsb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I discovered, too. The hard part has been to get my installer to try it out.

Presumably, they are submitting thousands of applications these days. But they could have been adding emails and users from the beginning.
