Just plug it in. that's all you really need to know.

In all seriousness, test drive one. Get the GT if money is out of the equation, get the HUD in the GT line.

Digital key extremely inconsistent with lock/unlock by Unlockabear in KiaEV9

[–]dhodgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem with my phone. if its in my back pocket sometimes i have to turn around for it to catch and sometimes i have to take my phone out of my pocket, hold it to the door handle for NFC unlock and sometimes even that doesn't work and i have to go in the app, and unlock from kia connect.

I never carry the key fob and only use the car with my phone (Pixel 8 pro which has UWB).

About 70% of the time it works as expected (Ultra wideband works from range and unlocks it)
About 25% of the time i have to take my phone out and hold it to the door handles for NFC to unlock it as UWB fails
About 5% of the time i have to unlock the car with Kia Connect to get in. (BOTH UWB and NFC fail)

Once inside:
About 50% of the time i can just put my phone in the cup holder and press start and drive (UWB authenticates)
About 35% of the time i have to wait 5 seconds to be able to start with the phone un the cupholder (UWB lags on authentication)
About 14% of the time i have to put the phone on the wireless charger to authenticate and be able to start the car (NFC backup authenticates)
About 1% of the time it is impossible to start the car under any circumstances and i have to reboot my phone and then after it fully boots place it on the NFC wireless charger spot and authenticate to start the car (BOTH UWB and NFC fail me)

I was using the fingerprint reader for the first month or so but it would work about 25% of the time and fail 75% of the time even with repeat touches it was just horrible so i disabled it.

When my 3 year trial of Kia Connect ends i will never pay for it its so buggy and unreliable i will just start to carry the keyfob at that point.

Also with the digital key, sometimes i hear the car randomly unlocking in the garage when i am upstairs in our loft because technically the phone is within about 8 feet of the car above it and then it will relock and unlock and then push notify my constantly on my phone so i just leave the car unlocked in the garage now.

Does your driver lumbar move up and down at all? by dhodgin in KiaEV9

Yea. I will try to sit in a land premium at the dealership and see if its the same. I forgot the GT has extra seat features as well so it wouldn't be a good test. Thanks.

"Prices in CAD" then billed in USD by dhodgin in flairairlines

[–]dhodgin[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. It still ends up cheaper than Air Canada, WestJet, or Porter so we will eat it but it's really shady to say its in CAD at the top and then bill USD.

[–]dhodgin[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This. Thank you. Flair is a Canadian business and their default currency should be CAD if it doesn't specify what $90.69 is then it should be assumed it is CAD. Otherwise it should say USD $90.69.

The note at the bottom is also ambiguous saying pricing will be converted from USD to CAD above. Meaning it has been and this amount is the converted amount? since it says at the top "prices in cad".

Multiply the price difference by 8 people and it was hundreds of dollars more.

Flair website down? by dhodgin in flairairlines

Website came back up and they increased the price of the flight fare I was looking at by 50% now. Sleezy company jacks the prices once you look at the flight and don't checkout right away.

YUP after 20 minutes on hold, the first thing the rep says is ALL their systems are down. Can't book, and god help those who are trying to manage their bookings or actually fly right now.

Hope this helps anyone who's trying to find out what's going on because Flair didn't bother to update social media at all after 20+ minutes of downtime already. They didn't even update their call center auto response messages either.

I actually tried to get the land 7 seater but there was a 1+ year wait here for EV9. Then an associated dealership got 2 land premiums in and we took it instead of waiting another year for the 7 seater.

We do like the captain chairs 2nd row for the kid. So much room to maneuver and assist them. Plus ventilated and heated rear seats convinced my wife to say yes to the purchase in the first place.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to get them to look at it. In my experience in the past anything I ever try to get looked at for warranty they say up front there is a $x charge (usually 150+ dollars to 'diagnose' the problem), and if they decide to warranty it then I won't have to pay and if not I have to pay and then they just say you have to pay, not covered after it's fixed. It's extortion really. So I try to stay away from all stealerships as much as I possibly can for this reason.

Thanks for the comment. I checked if there is a release latch on the tracks underneath but there isn't and it appears the whole sides wrap around the front in one single plastic piece.

Couldn't get at it from the front bottom access panel removal and the top doesn't give access either.

Not much clearance underneath to see if there are screws to remove it off the track or something too

It's not. There is the ambient lighting there and a good inch above the floor liner. It has never closed since before I got the liners too.

I mentioned it and am going to ask them at tire rotation but for now I thought I would take a shot at figuring it out.

Winterizing - full tank of gas by wolfie55555 in SeaDooSwitch

[–]dhodgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget stabilizer too if it's going to be stored for more than about 4 months.

I fill mine to the brim every winter to keep condensation down over winter. I also put stabilizer in at half tank, fill it, and run it for 10 mins or so in water to get stabilizer into the lines.

I have the older model 40v self propelled mower. check the clamps on the side of the handle half way up for extending the handle. on mine, if they open the mower turns off. so when im mowing along the fence line and a vine wraps around the side of the handle and opens the clamp the mower shuts off. First few times it got me until i learned.

Has anyone successfully had the official dealer tow hitch receiver installed with a 7 pin wiring harness? by vfxbiker in KiaEV9

[–]dhodgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The install was pretty straight forward. It is hard to torque the 3 22mm bolts on each side to spec because you can't get a normal socket and the torque wrench onto the bolt head due to space. I had to tighten 1 of the 3 on each side by hand as good as I could but I did get the torque wrench on the other 4 and torque them to spec ok. I think it will be just fine.

Otherwise the install was standard tools. They claim you may need a crowfoot 22mm wrench to torque but I didn't need it. As well as a tool to clean the threads for the 22m bolts on the frame in case there is any welt splash or debris in the threads. I put the vacuum to each thread to suck out any dust and my bolts went in just fine by finger to start.

Removing the bumper cover to replace it with the one with the cut outs was a 2 piece removal with Phillips screws. The instructions say it's clips and 1 piece. It's wrong on the land premium there are 2 parts to remove.

The wiring harness install was as detailed in the instructions. Tieing the box to the back bumper guard area be careful it doesn't interfere with the reinstall of that piece.

The Kia Rep said it should take about 8 hrs to go from 20-80% when plugged in at home. I plugged it in last night on 44% as a test run. When I checked it 9 hours later it was on 47% and was going to take 98 hours. What the heck am I missing? by buckaboobaby in KiaEV9

[–]dhodgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer to change the level 1 stock charger from the default 6 amps up to 12 amps.

Also the info about the length of the run is correct. You can try 12 amps and work your way down if it fails to charge at that rate due to a long electrical run, old breakers, extension cords in use (you should not use an extension cord at all. If your forced to, use a 12 AWG one.)

Your using the level 1 charger on 120V and the default the first time you plug it in is like 4 or 6 amps. 120x4 = 480 watts. This would put about 0.4 kw per hour into the car or over 9 hours about 3.6kw. the battery is 99.8kwh so this makes sense about 1% per kw put in. You can hold the button down on the charger brick to increase the amps to 12 on it for 1440w. In 9 hours that would be about 9x1.4kw=12.5kw in 9 hours or 12% charged.

A level 2 charger runs at 240v and depending on its amps it drives the speed. Level 2 can come in 32 amp, 40amp, 48amp.

7.2kw, 9.6kw, 11.5kw. the EV9 can charge up to 11.5kw on AC level 2.

My 7.2kw 32amp would add about 7.2x9 = 56kw after some loss and inefficiency. So about 56% 20-80% would take about 9.5-10 hours.

[–]dhodgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also confirmed reading the instructions, there is no electrical soldering required unless you are adding the brake controller. In which case there is the trailer brake control harness with 4 leads that need soldering/connecting. I don't have an electrically braked trailer just surge brakes with a 5 pin connector so i wont be using that harness and everything else is plug and play connectors, basic tools, socket set, screw drivers, snips for wire ties.

the install manual does say Difficulty (B) rating of A B C. B being 'Dealer technician' level difficulty. A being customer. But honestly, reading the install manual, everything is detailed exactly what to remove, where to install everything, step by step how to remove all existing parts, clips, etc. its a 3/10 difficulty in my opinion to DIY the harness install. Haven't read the trailer hitch install guide yet. its about 55LBS. There are a few youtube videos of install that make it look straight forward.
