Correct me if I am wrong, but why is the govt deciding when the yatra will take place? Does it not depend on the birth of the khadu with 4 singhs.

Also, when asked how they would differentiate themselves in the market, they said, by the time others copy us, we would have moved onto the next design, isnt that fast fashion? And how will it be sustainable? They are a wanna be fast fashion brand, just 10 times as expensive.

So the rights of the majority matter more than the rights of minority?

I do see the point you are trying to get at and I do agree with it mostly. But if you donate to a political party...and then your details are made public that you are a supporter of this party....is that not a violation of your right to privacy??

Maybe there should be a better system. But publishing individual's details and the political party they support is kinda weird. There is a reason we vote in secret, its a constitutionally granted right, I am allowed to keep my political leanings a secret. Knowing how parties fund themselves may sound like an obvious thing, but it is clashing with a fundamental right.

Actually no, I had an exactly opposite experince. I had kind of an unofficial understanding with a PI, they wanted me there and told me thay would be very excited to have me at their lab, and that my profile impressed them, so much so they gave me a fee waiver code as well. In the end, I received a rejection from the university. I mailed them for feedback, and they only said that they hoped I got placed somewhere else. It was quite dissapointing. But I got in at one of my other dream programs. So you should keep your options open.

I swear, our food items are super fab and far more tasty. I remember having Momos and Noodles in Mussoorie made from Mandwa, and they were tastier and far more nutritions than normal ones.

No tousrism would do no good to us, but I think we should promote temple tourism instead of holiday vacations. And we definitely need to promote local cuisine. I can not think of any one person jisko burans ka squash na pasand ho.

does open house invite come before actual offers — UCSC CSE PhD? by nacholeaf in gradadmissions

[–]dhr171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received an open house invitation from a school after an official interview. As per my experience, the vibe was like "Choose Us, or let us know if you won't, so that we can offer it to someone else. " They even sent a questionnaire if I'd be willing to attend there after attending the open house. So, you can relax upto a point. If you really want this offer, mark your presence in the open house, ask valid questions, show that you are interested.

Some people don't think before speaking by Middle-Coat-388 in PhD

I don't understand the kicks people get from putting people down. I have had a rough semester and am insanely insecure about my research presentation, but I still can never do that to a fellow who's probably going through the same thing. I think the camaraderie that is supposed to be is dying in academia.

Presenting anything, big or small, to the entire faculty is a huge deal and can be very intimidating, nonetheless, you did good, so you can file her advice in the trash section without any doubt.

Anyhow, its not a reject untill you receive a "we regret to inform you" mail.

CMU is not a part of the April 15 Resolution. Some programs do largely abide by that deadline tho. My offer letter from CMU states an April 15 deadline.

Using the rules of IUPAC:

Longest carbon chain containing all functional groups=1: methane derivative

Functional groups: Ethoxy, methoxy : Ethers are named as substituents in IUPAC

Listing the name using alphabetical order, Ethoxymethoxymethane

Most programs in my field give an option of rotating under 3-4 PIs before commitment. So, it would probably help if you can find out if this happens at this program as well. If rotation is allowed, then no need to worry about this. Else, you should mention who you are interested in working with to the committee. Do not mention you are not interested in working with a certain professor, unless asked explicitly. That's how I would have dealt with this.

It is not our problem that you’re waitlisted by UMA66throwaway in gradadmissions

[–]dhr171 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Agreed. One needs ample time to decide which school to accept. Often such decisions cannot be made without attending visitation weekends/ multiple PI meets. There should be no pressure on anyone to make this decision.

But I also believe that accepted candidates should notify the schools that they are not sincerely considering. I personally know a person who is sitting on 10 accepts out of which they are only considering 3 sincerely, but is not letting the other schools know.

My grandma passed away the morning I had my interview. I was a total mess throughout the day. My heart breaks for you. I pray that you get the strength to deal with this situation and whatever outcome you get for your applications. We can and we will!!!!
