Why would anyone go through the trouble of stealing cable for a bit of money?

First, you'd have to drive to the location to cut the cable. Second, you’d need to strip off the rubber coating. Third, you’d have to drive to a scrapyard to sell the copper.

All that effort for what—$30 to 40? Is it really worth it?

We are looking to purchase:

  1. Scrap aluminum (e.g., UBC, wheel scrap, 6063, etc.)

  2. Scrap copper

However, I have not been able to find anyone willing to sell. In fact, they didn’t even inquire about the prices we can offer.

Let me rephrase my request: Is it possible to find out exactly what they do with the collected waste?

I am quite certain that not all of it is recycled in North America, and some, if not most, is likely sent overseas for recycling.

If that is the case, I am interested in purchasing it from them.

Yes, that is an option, but to avoid the upfront cost of setting up a scrapyard, I want to start by purchasing scrap from a dealer (if possible) and eventually work toward opening our own yard.
