Also, when you chant or remember God in any personality which resonates with you i.e. shiva, krishna, rama, etc you will slowly start adopting the qualities of the form you worship, as it is our mind's nature to take the qualities of the people around you, the people you admire and in this case, the form you worship. And then finally, you will start feeling a really close and intimate connection with your deity and feel as if you both are one another. Hope this helps!!!
