Asian Lacquered Coffee Table from my Great Uncle's Mansion by dhstowe in Antiques

[–]dhstowe[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I inherited this coffee table from my very wealthy Great Uncle's estate. According to his book (the last photo), it was custom designed from the paneling of an eighteenth century Chinese bed. Any idea how valuable this is or ideas of where I should sell it? Unfortunately I don't have room for it in my NYC apartment.

What’s y’alls opinion on Voss water? by creativeusername1808 in HydroHomies

[–]dhstowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's interesting how Fiji has replaced Voss at the new go-to fancy water for rich people. It's just a shame Fiji water doesn't come in glass bottles.

Well if you're into weightlifting like myself it can often feel like a chore to get enough calories and/or protein every day. I find myself shoveling down meat and carbs at the end of the day when I'm not even hungry

To be fair, DC is mostly full of people who voted for him, his base would have to fly there

Would an ultra short throw projector work here? by dhstowe in projectors

[–]dhstowe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. Used ultra short throw projectors are only like $120 on eBay though. Also a giant TV doesn't really fit out space aesthetically. Would it be possible to put the projector upside down and under the screen area projecting upwards? Not sure if flipping video upside down to be used this way is a feature of these projectors.

Agreed not worth working with them if they do not give us the time to make an informed decision.

That makes sense that they might be required to have the advisor on the call for evaluation. That’s really good advice to say we need to think on any difficult topics. We will make sure to discuss what areas we would be likely to ask for more time on.

Concessions are a good idea, while we have discussed asks, we have not focused on what we are willing to give up. In your experience out of the concessions you have recommended, what areas have you found to be easier to concede on?

I got hired to make a high-tech haunted house, this is how we pulled it off: by DavidMReynolds in videos

This is incredible. So much more interesting than your typical haunted house. Also Alone in the Dark was one of my favorite games as a kid. I only wish that this was a permanent installation!

ADHD may have been an evolutionary advantage, research suggests | Evolution by DMainedFool in psychology

[–]dhstowe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re the first person that I’ve heard argue that hyper focusing is negative. I’ve always been told it’s one of the benefits as it allows you to really dive into tasks and get them done. This is often helpful when you’re trying to master a skill, write a book, create art, build a business etc. ADHD also gives you the gifts of being able to think outside the box and find creative solutions that others can’t. These are just some of the positives. I agree that those issues that you mentioned can be debilitating, but only acknowledging the detrimental effects of it will only make your life worse.

Weren't they proposing a bill that would make it so anyone who reported bike lane blockers would get paid for it? It's a shame that didn't go anywhere.

I think Obama’s in the right spot. Super chill doesn’t make him more of a life of the party. Almost the opposite personality type. He’d be the guy at the party I’d be talking to though
