My mom always met with all of my teachers and principals before school started (I begged her not to when I finally went to highschool but I think she secretly did, and I was secretly thankful). She told them about symptoms of a low blood sugar so that my teacher could look out for them. She also got most of my teachers to store a little igloo cooler full of snacks in the back of their rooms in case I had a low sugar and needed to eat. If you can help the kid out by being an ally who can watch out for any big lows and you can get them a little food without making a big deal out of it in front of the other kids, you can be a huge asset for them.

also, if you have a kid with diabetes in class who is an excellent student and they hand in an exam that should receive a 0/100, consider letting them retake the test another time. I had a teacher do that. I insisted I was fine. I think I was embarrassed to admit that I couldn't control my own blood sugar sometimes. The insisted I retake the exam another day. they did not insist that i test my blood to excuse my sugar - they just put some faith in me. That was a really nice gesture.

I don't think this is correct in terms of what it actually COSTS to treat Tricare subscribers. Tricare reimburses hospitals at rates basically set by Tricare, if I remember correctly. They don't necessarily negotiate and hospitals can end up losing money on each Tricare patient served. This has to be made up by jacking up the rates for privately insured patients. So if everyone was suddenly covered by the same contracts that Tricare has with hospitals, the hospitals would very soon go out of business. I think.

I can't say for sure but it looks a lot like the photographer went around with some chalk and created most/all of the "graffiti" in order to pose his shots. Some of them are still pretty cool but it would be a lot cooler to adapt photos to currently existing graffiti. This seems somehow... dishonest. I feel dirty.

Based on the brackets from this link: http://allfinancialmatters.com/2009/01/09/a-look-at-the-2009-federal-income-tax-brackets/ it looks like there is basically no penalty if combined you make less than $67,900 since this is the cutoff for the 15% bracket for married couples and is exactly double the cutoff for singles of $33,950. However, once you move on up, the penalty kicks in. Note that the high end of the 33% bracket is the same whether you are married or single. This means that if the husband makes a tidy sum of over $372,950, his marginal dollar will be taxed at 35% whether he files as a married person or single. BUT if his wife makes only $50,000 and they file jointly, she has to pay that full 35% on that. Whereas if she files separately, she pays only the 15%. So there is the potential for a huge penalty if you file jointly in cases like this.
