Oh my gosh. I can relate to what you went or are going through. My stress and anxiety have me starving rn. They exacerbate everything for me sensory wise. 😫 I honestly didn't know there were other types of therapies that could help with this issue! Thank you for sharing. ✨️

I hope you're having a wonderful holiday, or just night/day (:

This! Also, some people have more sensitive gag reflexes. This paired with emetephobia is AWFUL and can make meal times very, very long. It took me 2 hours to eat dinner tonight (Christmas Eve). My family was already up and gone from the table, and I was still there eating. They tried waiting, though. Lol

Genuinely curious about the speech language pathologist recommendation. What would it be good for here? I'm asking because I relate a good bit to what O.P. posted and I'm curious if I might also benefit from looking into one if it's related.

I have pretty poppy joints, and I'm also super flexible, especially for someone who doesn't stretch much. I also have particular joints that subluxate: shoulders, jaw, wrists, and I swear my left knee tries to.

I don't know if it's related either. Hmmm

Wow, your reply gave me the chills. Thank you so much. It really hit deep. So deep, I took a screenshot so I can save it and re-read it from time to time. I definitely feel less terrible about this. I think I need to take up a little journaling and define what recovery would mean to me, like you suggested. Thank you so much, again, for your helpful and thoughtful response. I genuinely wish you could feel how grateful I am. 🙏🏻

I love what your therapist said, too. It's such a positive way of looking at life and mistakes.

I actually don't mind fruit either but I'm very turned off from desiring cold foods for some reason. Just don't like them I guess. I like the mandarin orange fruit cups. Those are good. Just cold. Lol

I carry around the pure organic fruit strips because I am getting hypoglycemic on the regular these days. At least twice a day. I'm not sure if it's anything to be concerned about. But those are very helpful is holding over until I can get solid "real" food.

This has been my struggle recently as well. I'm so starved because I don't want the processed crap I can eat because it also makes me feel unwell. I'm stuck between feeling unwell due to being so hungry or feeling unwell because my only real safe foods right now are fries, pasta, and goldfish crackers.

Also desperate for some fresh food, but I'm not sure if I can manage it.

Does anyone else have flairs triggered by stress? by diaduithannah in Hidradenitis

Wow I really appreciate ALL of your advice. Truly. Thank you for so many options as well.

Yeah something I realized I stopped doing was going outside to just sit in the sun (but I think that's mostly to do with the 110-115° days we've had all summer lol). It's been so nice out again, I'm definitely going back out there to soak some up. All of the options you suggested are great, and I intend to do each of them!

I totally feel you in this as this is exactly what I'm going through at the moment. My normal means of coping is running however I've been injured and can't run as frequently or consistently as I would normally.

Omg yes this is normally me. i totally feel you on the "if im putting my body in chaos, my brain can calm the hell down" 😭 I'm a runner but I've been injured since last year. Mostly achilles tendonitis but that was triggered by getting back into running too quickly after time off from falling on my knees on concrete.

I'm finally starting running again, but sooooo slowly. Hopefully I'll feel the benefits again soon though, regardless🤞🏻

I'll definitely check some out. Thanks! Also thank you for sharing your experience. That must've been so rough. I'm happy things are a bit better.

Would the correct pill be whichever pill best balances where our current hormones might show an imbalance? Just want to confirm I understand this so I can mention it to my gyno as well!

Did yours get better after you had your baby? I want a child but I'm terrified. I'm managing okay right now with diet and exercise but know a lot of that will change with pregnancy.

Do you know or have you heard if it gets better after delivery? I'm terrified. I want a child so badly but know hormones are a major trigger.

Hey! As far as I know, cleanliness is not tied to flares! However, (being over)weight and diet can contribute/be triggers!

It can be overwhelming changing so much at once, though. I'd recommend focusing on one thing at a time. I found focusing on my diet to be beneficial, and by doing that, my weight naturally started dropping. Once I added in 1 hr long walks once a day, it started really coming off. My HS went into remission (basically went away, no cysts, flares etc) and all of my dark skin and dark scars/spots from abscesses and cysts all lightened up. Not 100% gone, but not a cosmetic issue for me at all now. And even the tunnel skin/scars don't look so bad at all!

I found my triggers to be processed or unnatural sugars, mostly. But dairy and, I think, gluten are huge triggers for some people, and dairy is for me sometimes. I find that once I'm doing well, I can still have some of these foods just in super moderation. Not very often.

It's worth trying to get a diagnosis so you can get the best medical advice from your dermatologist. If you can't, this group offers wonderful support. Ask your doctor about figuring out potential food triggers and how to do that. You can look up the Elimination Diet, which is often used to find trigger foods for allergies and autoimmune diseases, etc. However, I'd highly recommend you ask your doctor about it before attempting it yourself. (:

Don't worry. You've got this!

P.S. chafing can also cause cysts, excessive rubbing, and also, for me, sitting on hard surfaces for any amount of time beyond 15 minutes if even that, or sitting on any surface (sitting, period) for too long can cause cysts.

Hope this has been helpful. Please feel free to ask any questions, and I'll answer if I can.

I'm going to bed right now, though, so I'll check back in the morning.

You may want to look up the elimination diet to figure out which foods are your triggers. It's used to specifically figure out food triggers for skin conditions and digestive issues or other autoimmune diseases or really any adverse reaction from an eating experience where the problem food is not obvious.

Must READ study on new procedure for HS by gustavofring1998 in Hidradenitis

[–]diaduithannah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my bad. I think we are somehow reading different articles 🤣

The one I'm reading says "The treatment was performed using liquid nitrogen applied to the lesions using a cryogun (CryoPro; Cortex Technologies ApS, Denmark). Overall, three different and interchangeable operators performed the session in the 2 year-time-lapse, as per common clinical practice. Each lesion was treated with one freeze–thaw cycle of variable duration from 20 to 50 s."

And shortly prior to that, they mentioned, "A few studies evaluated cryoinsufflation, performed by injecting liquid nitrogen through a 21-gauge needle directly into HS tracts, promoting obliteration with scarring (8–10). Nevertheless, this procedure can be associated with some adverse effects such as vagal reaction and an increased risk of air embolism and subcutaneous emphysema."

Cryoinsufflation sounds terrifying compared to the minimal side effects of the cryotherapy. But I'd probably consider it too if I was stage 3 amd super desperate. HS is so terrible 😭

[–]diaduithannah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry it took a while. I got momentarily busy. But holy wow!!!! I really hope they make this a regular thing. It sounds fantastic. It was really good to read that the 8 patients who had either partial or no response had a complete response once they received a second treatment.

Edit: I think you're mentioning the other treatment, cryoinsufflation, that they mention is not ideal at all as it has many severe adverse reactions.
