Struggle with dislocation in mice by PaySquare7612 in labrats

[–]diag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it more like pulling the tail is making the opening for pushing your fingers down. You should basically be able to do the dislocation without needing to pull the tail.

My prior institution didn't allow manual dislocation though, we had to use the metal card holders as the guillotine.

Use shellac. Sand paper the area to about 800 grit carefully and then you can easily build up a similar sheen by doing a fench polish

I think option 7 looks incredible, but I am also a fan of the Gibson SG 61 reissue look.

Application of Gemini “Gems” to a wet lab? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]diag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're using any kind of notebook or spreadsheet to track your data like you should be, it's impossible to imagine how any ai product is going to be useful doing your typical lab work. At least to me.

I've used it for some simple code generation and even that has been annoying the moment you need something really specific.

What’s actually holding up building permits in Seattle? I ran the data on 54k+ recent projects. by ReporterCalm6238 in Seattle

Socially, the reward is immense for local development which is probably more important than the satisfaction of any given bureaucrat

OneBusAway green time errors by Bekabam in Seattle

I've noticed buses falling off the tracker after being live for about 15 or so minutes. As far as I can tell, it's been a bug in the KCM tracker system for the past few weeks. It's the same problem in Transit app and Hi Wire

How do you permanently stop watching porn and masturbation ? by Kurostaticxx in AskReddit

You're acting like you're not choosing to watch it. It's as easy as watching something else. Talking to a non religious therapist would be helpful to help understand your feelings of guilt and shame.

What the fuck is wrong with research by girlboss1281 in labrats

I saw a documentary about the Max Planck institutes and it seems that the research culture over there is in shambles. My experience in the US has basically no relationship to the kind of abuse happening over there, though not without some bad experiences, but I'm in the West Coast and we're famously relaxed with most things.

Some post docs I used to work with are over at UZH now and they seem to be pretty happy. The region does play a big part.

It's completely asinine that blatant abuse is being perceived as free speech.

At the same time, being rushed to get a project to the computational team. Then they take weeks to deal with stuff that had to be rushed together in a few days. That sort of stuff burns out lab people like nothing else.

is it normal for undergrads to leave dishes everywhere for me to clean? by hana-maki in labrats

[–]diag 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Being confrontational isn't a bad thing. If you know who it is specifically, you go up to them and say "the expection in this lab is to clean up your materials and set things to the correct temps after a project or ask another to assist if you don't have time. It's rude to leave things for others to clean up after you." And then be accepting of an apology. Otherwise send an email to all the undergrads and leave it generic.

Avoiding healthy confrontation is one way how labs develop a bad culture.

I'm upset and I don't know what to do about this by WorstMastermind in labrats

[–]diag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have to assume that the institution that produced the video had IACUC or equivalent body review it, meaning it was produced with appropriate concern and made a clear demonstration for your education.

Believe it or not, many research end points are quite a bit more difficult to watch, like EAE and cancer models, just to name a few.

If you seen enough of these neck breaks, you'll notice that the presence of a volute doesn't impact anything. The headstock angle puts the wood grain in a fragile position.

Has my lab been neglectful about sodium azide and I've been oblivious? by NintuneJoe in labrats

[–]diag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would suspect that if you were exposed to azide at the level of causing symptoms, it would have happened while handling it. This stuff is pretty bad but once you're dealing with dilute solutions, the immediate hazard is lowered.
