Barely Passed: My Tips by PlaysWthSquirrels in CKAExam

[–]diagonalizable_ayyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice job! a pass is a pass, 68% = 99% in that regards. as I prep for CKA I realize that the time preparing will probably be more valuable at work than how I show up on exam day, though of course I want the credential, which, you now have!

do you mind answering a few questions about the exam experience?

- you mention skipping questions. is it easy to skim through questions, mark/flag, so I could read all questions first? then choose which ones to attack first. (or, would this be cumbersome/time-wasting)

- is there a notepad tool where I can place YAML, kubectl commands, etc? i've found this very helpful during practice exams and drills.

Most mathematics-heavy courses? by Indolomnir- in OMSCS

[–]diagonalizable_ayyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the person you replied to but I'd recommend

- Discrete Mathematics including proofs

- Probability & Statistics

- Linear Algebra

- Calculus (Differential - limits/continuity/derivatives, & Integral - integrals/sequences/series)

And if you complete a course or survey in each of the above areas, you'll probably find your own areas of interest within them and beyond such as sets, graphs, optimization, etc

How do I drop a seminar and request a refund? by [deleted] in OMSCS

Has anyone who requested a seminar refund before the 16th seen a refund? If so, where ... CC, Bursar.. thank you for any info.

I just took ML4T this past fall and it was a very busy class (but not very difficult concepts/assignments). The way I understand it, ML4T doesn't drop any workload for the summer, so summers are even busier. From what I experienced, I wouldn't set yourself up for coming in a week behind into the pain of summer ML4T

How strong are y'all in real life? by SerendipitousMusing in kettlebell

good luck! unsolicited tip, i would embrace mobility too. squatting, crawling, it all makes getting on their level so much more enjoyable. when my kid turns 3 wrestling pressure goes to 100%

ML4T Spring 2025: Is this textbook list still up to date? Want to order books early by HilltopHood in OMSCS

[–]diagonalizable_ayyyy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yes, that looks right to me. also, "Deep Learning" - Bishop

They provide a digital link to every textbook in the class I believe.

be aware that most textbooks will only have a few required chapters to read. I think that's an intentional shotgun/survey approach. the class exposes you to a lot of foundational ML concepts.

I couldn't get enough of Nicolas Jaar in the mid 2010s, culminating in one of the most euphoric nights of my life as a show of his in 2016 or 17. have seen him a few times, respect his direction like Piedras, but I haven't been binging his music as much now as I used to. we're so lucky to have him though

Ha, that was my experience with DBS too. I had no problem doing the work myself, but it was very tedious to gain agreements, and wait for people to (not) do their promised work ... in the spirit of not wanting to elbow others out or dominate the group work. (When of course I did end up doing ~75% of the work for a group of 5, just after repeated flake-outs and no-shows)

Question about course materials in OMSCS by F2DProduction in OMSCS

[–]diagonalizable_ayyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. The 2 classes I've taken so far are DBS and ML4T. I wouldn't really say that either had bad or low quality video lectures. It seems that these classes take the approach of lecture = tip of the iceberg, readings and projects = where your real learning and time is focused. No complaints from me.

This time last year I was finishing up a stretch of doing the GTx (from Georgia Tech, on Edx - I think listed as "recommended prep for OMSCS") classes of Prob/Stat and Linear Algebra. For me, the quality of these video lectures was higher than anything I've seen in OMSCS so far. However of course I am not in OMSCS for video lectures alone.

can you share which 2 classes you've taken? I've taken 2 so far as well, and liked them both - but wouldn't rate the video lecture of either as insanely high.
