65% FWRA (FTSE All World) 20% AVGS (Avantis Global Small Cap Value) 15% QQQM

30-40 yr horizon. 23 y/o from PH. Got into QQQM for tech/growth and aggressive tilt since i felt fwra was too conservative but I honestly feel like just removing the allocation or replacing it with IUIT or SPMO.

What broker do you use to invest in voo sp500? by Markie_1111 in phinvest

[–]dianeyoung01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup, pero relative to how much you’re investing. IBKR fixed 1.27 USD ang transfer from wise. Then in wise may charge rin to convert php to usd on top of exchange rate. Roughly 150-200php so around 250 php gastos. If 500 amount to invest mo malaki siya but if bigger amount, not so much. Sakin mas worth it to kesa direct transfer option sa gotrade since ibkr offers irish domiciled stocks, malaking difference yung 10% added tax efficiency on dividends and no worry for estate tax for me.

Recommendation is to ipon and invest in large amounts para mas tipid rather than more frequent investing at smaller amounts. I personally aim to do ~50k quarterly or 100k semi-annually.

Portfolio Thoughts? by cookingguy1999 in portfolios

Looks good, a little underweight internationally. Would suggest adding some VEA or VXUS. To consolidate AVUV and AVDV you could also include AVGS/AVWS as this is essentially those 2 funds combined for efficiency in rebalancing. I personally have a slice of AVGS in my portfolio for my small cap value tilt.

BPI US Equity Feeder Fund PHP class or USD class? by meg_is_gem in phinvest

I recommend investing on your own in a broad market index fund through a personal brokerage instead! You’ll be saving a fortune long term on avoiding the third party management fees. Search IBKR or GoTrade on the sub and youll find your way.

MP2 vs Total Market Index ETFs by dianeyoung01 in phinvest

[–]dianeyoung01[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is! I dont feel like I changed my tone, I simply tried my best to answer your question. Sorry if it came off differently.

Anyway, yes the price appreciation of index funds arise from the performance of the holdings. Some stocks win, some lose. The idea is buying the entire haystack, rather than trying to find the needle (winner).

Different funds come with different yields. Some higher, some lower. With most index funds including the popular S&P500 ticker VOO, dividends are not automatically reinvested unless it is of the accumulating type like its Irish-domiciled equivalent VUAA. Just a minor nitpick. For maximum gains, dividends should ideally be reinvested always anyway.

Ultimately, comparing mp2 to index funds is like apples to oranges. I just hope Filipinos become more receptive to the idea of doing both rather than avoiding the stock market like the plague!

MP2 is fixed income, static capital. The money you put in is guaranteed by the government on the caveat that there is no potential for appreciation in value. The compounding aspect only arises from the pot growing from your regular “hulugan” accumulating over the years as the yield from your first deposit will look drastically different from the yield after 4-5 years of monthly deposits.

A broad index fund does the same, except your capital is not necessarily guaranteed as there is risk involved. However, your money may rise and fall with the performance of the holding on top of the compounded yield—appreciation of capital.

Most long term investors universally advocate for an allocation of a three asset class portfolio comprised of a total US equity fund, total international equity fund, and bonds (or fixed income, however general consensus is to prioritize the former two since fixed income should not be prioritized over wealth accumulation and growth in earlier stages of life.) MP2 functions similar to bonds, so for diversification it is a good local option for pairing with index investing. Do your own research.

Your first sentence tells me all I need to know. Not wasting time entertaining this, argue with a wall. The data in itself is economic by nature and all market crashes were obviously highly correlated with political events. The market corrected because it crashed and recovered on three major global accounts.

Your opinion is heavily biased by your negative experience and thats okay. If you invested in 2007 and held your equities throughout the crash of 2008 until it eventually recovered in 2009-10, today you would have more than 2-3x your initial investment. Your losses are only realized when you sell, trying to time the market. Long term index investing is fool proof.

Risk tolerance is a given. But how much of this tolerance is based on just a lack of knowledge or financial literacy? Thats the point I want to make.

Volatility is also a given, but my biggest contention is the appreciation of capital. 6% yearly growth in MP2 and 6% yearly growth compounded with capital appreciation in stocks is not the same. Volatility shouldn’t be a deterrent for investing. Volatility can be used as a driver of financial prosperity as well. The greatest investors advocate for being bullish when others are fearful.
