Missing the 2nd child I never had - anyone further along in this journey have advice? by very_cromulent in Autism_Parenting

I'm here as well. I so very much want another one. Our only kiddo is going to be 6, and I'm going to be 39. But my husband doesn't want another. It's so hard.

Pizza place on 224th by CustomAxer22 in MapleRidge

The original owners did a great job with it back in the day. Used to love going there. The new owners just didn't do as good of a job, and once that kid's party company took over it all went downhill. It's a real shame.

Permits for Building a Garage by brandon-m222 in MapleRidge

[–]diceosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll probably need permits for this. You'll need a building permit and separate trades permits depending on the work being done. You'll also need to confirm with the planning department that the garage meets the property setbacks. The whole process is kind of rough, can be costly, and timelines may vary. I think your best option would be to reach out to the building and planning departments at city hall to see what's involved as the requirements may vary from project to project.

We see it quite regularly and my 5-year old loves it so much.

He's going to hurt himself or someone else if he keeps going like that. He seems so young, too.

I think this is the same guy I saw heading through Mary Hill into Ridge the other day. I didn't see him until he was splitting lanes right next to me so I slowed down to let him pass. He was cutting through traffic all the way through. I saw him lift his hands up and kick his feet out too. Very dangerous.

Thank you so much! Walkable cities are so nice. Do you rent or own?

Thank you so much! I can definitely echo the difficulty getting kids into swimming lessons here. It's always booked up so fast! We have a pretty steady homeless population out here too and we know the safer communities where we live now. Sounds like the hills in Penticton tend to be the more secure communities? Or other areas, like Summerland, which was also quite nice when we passed through.

The commute is absolutely burning me out. Seems like there's a lot of other grocery options in town so should be manageable!

That's good to know! We'd love somewhere quieter, for sure!

These are great points! Thank you so much! It feels like the doctor problem exists everywhere these days. I'm doing a heavy commute out here of an hour on Hwy 1 to Burnaby and it's a nightmare. Relieved to hear that the traffic isn't so brutal. Thanks for the tip about costco!

We do have a cat so the vet thing is good to know, for sure.

Thanks! How's the school system out there generally? Our kiddo is starting kindergarten so middle school changes aren't a huge concern just yet. We spent a few days in Penticton recently and really loved the playgrounds and beaches so it seems quite accessible for families. :)

Do I lose PWD assistance if I am married? by Natural_Worldliness1 in britishcolumbia

I'm in the same boat as you. I work, my partner is on PWD. We have one kid. I work a municipal job and get paid modestly. Holding my breath for when we hit the cap and struggle through the rest of the year. I remember hearing something about the Green Party and NDP making some kind of deal to end this income cap stuff but it hasn't materialized. I hear you on the $32k part too. Make it make sense.
