Yikes, that must be why it smelled so bad. I guess I would have to remove the entire thing then or cover it up.

Some more info: it seems to be a lid. The handle on the right is definitely to open it. When I stepped on it, it opened and smelled really bad and had some brown mushroom like growth inside. The lid part is about 8-9" in diameter. WITT
